So i only have like 6 months exp driving a 53 tandem standard axle trailer.. And that was like 10 years ago to give an idea where im at skillwise.
My company bought a truck 53 foot spread axle kentucky trailer for motorsports. My first question is turning right on tight streets. I was doing this in a rsidential area to give and idea. So i went all the way to the left side of the road, pulled up as far as possiblehooked right into the "oncoming" side of the street i was turning on,and i still ended up jumping the curb. Any suggestions or technique would be greatly appreciated when turning right with a spread axle. It seems since the rearmost axle is set almost to the back of the trailer that its pivoting on that axle, which makes turning a bear. Ty for any cOnstructive tips you more experienced drivers can give![]()

Does it have a dump valve on the rear axle and a switch on the dash to operate it? This will make it pivot on the front axle and it will turn alot better and you wont get as much scrubbing on the tire's sidewalls. Dump it before the turn and raise it afterwords. Otherwise use as much room as you got to turn. I pulled a 48' spread for awhile. They can be a real pain w/o a dump, especially in nyc. BTW why are you in residental areas with a truck that size? Dont imagine your doing local deliveries of race cars.

By dump valve Do you mean like dumping the air from air bags of the rear axle to force the pivot point on the other axle? We just git the traile and tracter was seperate so ther is no switch int the tractor to do this but i can see how that would help a lot.
The parking lot we store the trailer in is on a residential street and im doing like a 90 degree turn into the lot with a narrow gate . Fun stuff almost took out the gate. If i can figure out how to rig something to "lift" the back axle that would helP as well. This is a 53 ' with a bridge length of 46 feet from kingpin to back axle. Which in ca is illegal except for motorsports, beginning to understand why..

Beware of rest area pull through spots. Make sure you can pull forward enough to get out with someone next to you, or back out.

you also need to be very carefull of your air tanks for some stupid reason they put them behind the rear axle and the drain valve is still on the bottom so you got like 4" from the valve to the ground so you need to watch where you pull in and out of like truck stops, my dad ripped the valve off his trailer a million times. Who ever designes this race trailers are retarded, same goes for backing into a parking spot..you cant back your tail swing over the curb or your gonna hit the #### tank lol

dont know who told you about the axle spacing for california being legal but you might want to check into it cause they are very stringent about the axle spacing laws out there and i dont see them making an exception for race trailers
-
they do
