Looking to get into trucking, need advice

As long as your driving and criminal records are clean, you will have no problem finding an otr job AFTER the 22nd. While many companies will pay for you to attend a school of their choosing, I highly recommend attending a CDL course at a community college if funds permit. Ouch. You weren't kidding about not minding attending a bottom of the barrel company. Btw, CRST IS team only, so your fiancé won't be going on the road with you there. Just a heads up.

 

Just wondering why, with your work ethic, you wouldn't think about college? If I read right, you were just wanting to do something for a career, not that you necessarily love truck driving, is that correct? You would be far better off going to college and getting a degree in something that will let you progress in your future. Look at pay scales for truckers. Someone that has 30 years experience often makes only 3 or 4 cents more a mile than a newbie. Not trying to deter you. I love trucking, it is what I want to do. If I was just looking at it from a logical standpoint though, just about anything in the medical field, or even a trade would be better in the long run. I would tell you something else if you were 40, but at your age, why not give yourself an education and options.

 

I would say military. It doesn't matter either way, you're never going to be home. At least if you go into the military you will get a cool experience. Trucking will always be there. It's an easy transition from military to trucking, except for nothing running on time. If you could only understand the awesome things you would see and do in the military it wouldn't even compare. I'm not saying it's easy, nothing worth doing is.
