I know this is a VERY different question than you normally get, but I was wondering what the inside depot Forklift operators earn? I drove a Class B trucks for 12 years, but also drove a forklift on a nightly/daily basis for well over 15 years. I do not want to drive a truck anymore, just don't for various reasons. Anyway I'm still interested in operating a Forklift while I'm in school for a high tech job. I was hoping to make 15 an hour? Does anyone know what a Forklift operator generally earns at NEMF or in general at a trucking company? Thanks for the help, I will appreciate any you may have.

That range $14 or $15 hour.

Thank you for the info, appreciate it.

Yeah, E. coast wages generally higher, about $12 on the west coast, except Seattle area.

Excellent, thanks for the info, appreciate it. I applied, so now I wait for a phone call. Hey is the job just unloading and loading trailer for 8 hours or is there more to the job? Thanks again.
-
You'll be loading/unloading trailers, however not everything is palletized. LTL comes in all sizes. You may have to use a hand truck to move freight or fingerprint some items. Then, you have to re-arrange freight on the dock. It's highly unlikely every trailer will be a straight load of 24 pallets. Then also, there's those double stacked lightweight pallets than may have leaned and will fall once you clear the trailer walls. Have fun !

Are you saying "have fun" because its tough or something? It doesn't sound that bad. Are these 24-hour operations, 3 shifts per day?
-
What I'm saying is it's not all ice cream and cake. I think you're thinking it's just sit on a forklift and load and unload. Ever seen a beer load where the load lock came loose and you have kegs on the floor, or 55 gal drums of oil that need to be manhandled etc ? Not reallythat hard.

Oh yeah i see what your saying, I expected that to be the case. i worked for a large distribution company and skids would fall over or break all the time. Big pain in the ### too. Anyway they didn't call me today so I'm thinking its not gonna happen anyway. I applied a few days ago. It could still happen but I doubt it now. Thanks for the info though.

YRC pays their dock workers the same pay as the drivers make (start at 20.35 if Full-time). AllowMe is correct though. Not everything will be perfectly stacked or palletized. When I worked for CWF they had the safe stack or double stack trailers. The trailers were had these racks that would come down and was used to double stack freight safely. It was a good system though. YRC doesnt have that and the few times I worked the dock theres freight stacked, or they have the decks that they can make in the trailers with the bars themselves.
