FYI!
For those of you who don't know, there are a few ways to buy a little extra time on the electronic logs in case of unforeseen circumstances such as today where the 1st and 2nd rest areas were full, and then the flying j was full. I was 21 miles from the French Camp OC, where there would be definite parking, but I only had 16 minutes of drive time left. For cases like these, where you don't want to get an hours of service violation but have no available options and could use a little more time, there are 2 main options.
Option 1: After being logged off duty for 5 minutes press ctrl alt del, enter, enter. This will restart your Qualcomm and usually allows enough time to go 4-6 miles before restarting and auto logging into drive.
Option 2: After being logged off duty for 5 minutes press ctrl alt del, enter, enter. This will also restart your Qualcomm but after it shuts off and comes back on with a blue screen that says Qualcomm press ctrl alt del again. This will put up a black screen with a little flashing white line. This screen will stay on until you press ctrl alt del, then it will continue to restart the Qualcomm. Theoretically you could drive all day like that without logging any drive time, but expect to get fired. I'd recommend only using it in case of emergencies and not more then 15 miles maximum. -
