That's amazing, I pickup beef loads from the slaughter houses in the mid west and take those to the port of Oakland but I never knew they had live exports like that.

I've hauled empty cattle cans many times. They are pretty neat, and I'll look for a pic with it upright

Do the cattle cans usually go on a regular chassis or flat bed?

The containers are called 'cowtainers' in the cattle industry but aren't as efficient as using the ships for big numbers of cattle. They can get 2500 head or more on the ships in pens not much different than stockyards, except that they're three or four levels high. They use the cowtainers a lot for smaller shipments of registered cattle, breeding stock, etc.

The Parker Ranch in Hawaii has over 200,000 acres and most of their cattle come over here on ships to be fed. I'm not sure what they do now, but they used to go into Canada for unloading because there weren't any U.S. flagged livestock ships and the Jones Act forbids them shipping between U.S. ports with foreign ships. They unload in Canada and most of them are finished in the PNW feedyards, but a lot of them used to be trucked to Texas feedyards for finishing and were killed in Texas.

Yeah standard hi cube 40' with ventilation windows cut in them. Inside they have a hay loft and a watering and feed trough as well. The ones I hauled had calves going to Turkey, but a bull rack provided the livestock, I just had the can.

Funny, I like how the news warned the public that the scenes were going to be all graphic. I expected to see cow heads and parts all bloody lying on the freeway. I guess if your a PETA fan then seeing a container full of cows is graphic.

It just seems to be a terrible way to go and the containers to me look like they would be awfully hot , reminds me of nazis and their train cars.

I lived in Seattle for over 50 years and never seen a "cow-tainer" on the road. Between MM 0 and MM1 on I-90 is where it rolled. Sort of a big S curve there. I can see if you had a can on a flatbed and the cattle walked to one side it would be pretty top heavy. Udder destruction!
