Here's my take on a good company.
I am the wife of a long haul trucker and we live in the Maritimes in Canada. My husband started driving for Bison Transport, based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on April of 06 as a company driver. The payscale was a lot better than his previous company (Brookville Carriers), eg: 37 cpm for all Cdn miles and 39 cpm for all US miles compared to 33.5 cpm for all miles at Brookville. Bison also pay for all border crossings, for all LUL and LLD and even for dropping a trailer in a customers door. They even pay out vacation pay separately from the rest of your pay unlike some companies that include it in the cpm rate.
Toward the end of 06 they were looking for drivers to take part in their lease operator program. Initially they didn't want to take any driver based out of the maritimes but soon accepted hubbys application. He has been a lease operator now for a little over a year and things are going well. The payscale is obviously better than a company driver payscale although one of the downsides is that you don't get vacation pay and of course he has to pay his own taxes.
If you're interested in coming over to a good canadian company, give Bison a try.

I've heard great things about them but, yup, they're not hiring company drivers out of the Maritimes right now and they want at least two years OTR experience. We're keeping an eye on them big time - their pay rate is great and every driver I've met really liked working for them!!

Well if you think that they are so great you should start talking to driver's out in Calgary about Bison and Find out just kind of liars they really are.

0.37/mi, it's what they're still paying as of the time of this post, according to their website. Almost seven years later.

It cynically amuses me to note, however, that their requirement has gone down to one year experience, and in the last ten years.

(/Me smiles coldly) Apropos nothing else whatsoever: Do any of you Maritimes-based hopefuls speak Punjabi or maybe Hindi, by any chance? If so, then come on out to heaven in Alberta!

I necro'ed a thread. And I liked it. I am A Bad Person(TM), and know that I should feel ashamed, but...
