I would like to thank all of you who have thanked me on some of my posts. It is my desire to only speak the truth. Central has some good points and dose work well as a starter company. I wish you all a great evening and a better tomorrow be safe out there and enjoy the view.

I'd like to add that if it weren't for you...and many others like you (Lady K, Klingon, JJ, PSUMoose, Chompi, Chrome Dome, 1badz28...and too many others that I know I'll miss someone if I keep trying to name...so sorry for not getting all of you listed), being 'more informed' would be a bit more difficult. It's very interesting how technology and social media has broadened our views, and in order for us to be more responsible about anything that we do, we've got to be able to take the good with the bad such as is brought to us in this type of forum. So thanks to all of you for voicing your opinions, concerns, warnings, successes, and everything else from A to Z.

There are drivers that own their truck and lease on with Central. Are you saying that they get $1.80 per mile?

$1.80 would be to high for Central an O/O is more Likly to negotiate his price as surcharge is something that's not added after your CPM as with Central plus most brokers may have a flat price they want to pay the price per mile is based on that. Another thing about prices are the more trucks in the area the less the pay.

No they do not. They get paid the same as the lease drivers.
I am talking about a percentage of the going rate for reefer loads.
They have been averaging over 2.00 per mile in most markets for most of the past year. Owner OPs can normally get 70 percent or more of the rate if they lease to a real OO company.
Or if they get their authority and either some contracts on their own, or by working with a company that has the contracts and offers good rates to broker their freight to small fleets it can work well.
My last company had several owner OPs with their own authority that hauled our freight for 93% of gross. This was flatbed, which has been running lower than reefer most of this year. But we never hauled anything for less than 2 bucks per mile.

My point was that there are many places where an owner OP can make more money than with Central. It may be more work in the short term, either looking for contracts, or a carrier that will pay fair percentage rates. But in the long term it means more freedom and revenue for you the company owner.

This is only true up to a point. As an independent O/O you really have to look at the regions, local areas, pay attention to in and outbound rates. There are several weekly reports that cover the lanes, also season means allot. As I said in the last post, it is a lot of work to run independent. Some can handle it, some cannot. Too much work for me. If I was single I could deal with it. But with my wife and bills to deal with it is too big a step for me at this point.

We've always wondered what Central pays those who own there own trucks. Central has a load board but the lease opps don't have the ability to see it let alone pull freight from it. That's where the loss of control would come in as CD said in his post about leasing.

Theres one thing different about Central or any other companies lease compared to by bying a truck outside is they get paid deadhead. If Central paid .90 per mile on. 1,000 mile load and the deadhead was 200 miles at .90 a mile your at least getting paid for your drive time. For that you can be happy but you would still better off if you could pull from there load board just think you could go where you want hey you could even go home when you wanted maybe that's why you can't use there board. Yepppp I think so. They're lose all control.

As a LOP (Lease/Operator) I would be paid $1.08 based on my time with them under the "new" pay plan. That includes most of the fuel surcharge in your mileage regardless of loaded or empty. It is worth it if you are running over 16% deadhead. They also have tiered pay for short loads and $50.00 each for stops past the 1 stop that they include on every load. there is also a safety bonus and on-time pay that they hand out every quarter. I would have to do some calculator work to see how that would spread out over the miles I run to see what it would put the per mile pay up to. It is obvious that there are many ways to fail if you get lazy. It would turn a LOP into a FLOP (Failed Lease Operator).
