    hey milk

i drive national flat, so i keep my truck and park it at the house when i'm home. i was 275,000 miles in my first truck, 83,000 in my second, and now 110,000 in my third. the last two were prostars, very comfortable, mostly, but with annoying glitches that you learn to live with.

you'll change trailers more often than you'll change your socks, because there are lots of pre-loaded trailers and relays. you swap equipment when you can, scrounge when you can't, and sometimes run without everything you need.

i've found that roehl doesn't hold your hand if your FM trusts you not to screw up. there's assigned routing and lots of communication procedures, but if you just send in the required info when you're supposed to, then everybody's happy downstream, they don't worry, and they leave you alone. the night and weekend people are there for putting out fires, and i've never had cause to complain about anything except that there aren't enough of them.

the logging is all automatic now, so you'll be running legal, and if you don't there's a permanent record for everybody to see, including the DOT officer on your running board.

roehl is hot on safe and legal. if you don't think something is safe, your call is the final one, and they won't argue. if a shipper loads you illegally, roehl will back you up if you balk.

To tell you the truth flatbed fleet for Roehl is great. I enjoy every minute I'm out flatbedding with Roehl. Now our equipment like tarps, bungies, etc can use alittle improvement but that can be with any company.

The FMs in the flatbed world are more concerned about your safety and safety of the load, they don't call you to check up, they don't ask dumb questions, for the most part they leave you alone. Of course that is completely depending on how you conduct yourself in their eyes. Problematic drivers tend to get more attention.

Freight for us is consistent unless your out of the flatbed freight lane which will happen from time to time. Being in flatbed division you will haul a curtain, reefer, or van... When hauling those your pay goes down which does suck but part of it.

    What else....

    Our customers rock.

Plus 99% chance you will get a 2013. (unless your me)

Oversize is paid by the hub miles at .9 cent increase in pay.

Can't think of much more my brains scrambled. Anything else ya need to know?/

Wow thanks for all the info on here, it sounds like a good place to go to. I'm still stuck on whether its worth riding it out here with W/S because of all the problems I've been having with the equipment. I make good money when my trucks not broke and I really like the company but breaking down every week gets old quick. I'm going to think it over for a week or two and ill let you guys know what I decide on. Thanks again for all the info :biggrin_25514:

Roehl is a fair company to work at for beginners but they are putting cameras to watch u driving and for unexperienced drivers that means alot of trouble i work for them for a while and i quit because of that

If you are driving "The Roehl Way", it doesn't matter. I put my own DashCam in my truck as an insurance policy to protect myself from being "at-fault" when it's not my fault.

Good luck driving the roehl way ! Lol i tried that didnt work for me i will do the best i can to stay back slow down yield to others prepare to driver reduce the risk expect the expected and know whats whappening but if a car cuts u off or if u are getting close to a car which is usually mystakes that all drivers can do even experienced driver even moree new drivers then u ### is in trouble but they will not accoumt for the good choices u made when driving just that one mistake to me not fair and for a new driver worst u can continue to drive the roehl way but i will prefer a real trucking company the one that understand the truck driver and trust his decisions as the profesdional he should but then again we all worked or work there and we all have different experience im just sharing mine

I don't know many people with a camera in their truck. Maybe one out of the hundreds I've met at terminals, shippers/cons, or truck stop. Being my 1 yr at the end of this month and my truck 2012, the other two on the 14/7 fleet I was on previous none of them had a camera. And things do happen out of your control and people have crashed trucks dinged them up good people that I know personally and never had a camera installed after the incident. I understand and personally hate it myself if it did happen but I wouldn't worry in the same if so. The camera footage I've seen the driver knew he had a camera after the incident in question bc of texting or being distracted looked at the camera after it happened. It's not something being implemented in the fleet. Sorry you had a bad run with them and hope your happy where u are. Take care.

I've been driving for 7 years, many of those at Roehl. I have never had any issues driving "The Roehl Way". The real world throws alot of curves at you as a driver, but staying back, and slowing down, seem to be two VERY GOOD IDEAS! There are a few active Roehl drivers on TTR here who like myself have close to or over 1,000,000 safe driving miles, who will probably agree with me that just those two ideas of staying back and slowing down, are two of the easiest and best ways to stay out of crashes. Just my worthless opinion.

I am not near 1millioso. But I do agree with you sir. The Roehl way is pretty simple to follow, don't ride people's butt, slowdown when a car does erratic maneuvers in front of you, yield when you can SAFELY yield, etc

Common sense goes a long way. Then again maybe my common sense is retarded common sense but who knows I'm just some young buck that goes crazy from time to time.
