Good day, everyone! I found this site while searching for a solution to a problem I'm having with my CB.

I had it in my '97 MACK tri-axle dump truck, and it worked perfectly. Then they bought me a 2004 International. I've been in it in three weeks, and I cannot get the CB to work.

I can hear and transmit only to trucks I'm running with. With the RF gain all the way up, and the squelch all the way down, I don't hear any static.

My radio is a Cobra 29 LTD Classic. The sticks I'm using are off my son's Kenworth T-600. Currently, only one stick is connected to the coax, although both sticks are mounted on the mirrors. I'm using the overhead cubbyhole to hold the CB, and have it connected to the factory installed coax in the cubby. The power cords are connected to the terminals on the dash. Looks kinda shabby. I'd like to connect the power cords to the ones in the cubby, but don't know which wire is "hot", as one is white, the other green-and-white, not red & black as one would expect.

I've been told that the mirror mounts on my truck do not have a good ground, and supposedly that is the problem, but I don't know how to remedy it.

Your problem is probably the coax. Try running a single coax from the antenna to the radio, or putting a second antenna on. The factory installed coax is designed for a dual antenna system.

Thank you for the reply Johnny. Initially, I had both sticks hooked up to the factory coax. When that didn't work, I bypassed the factory coax and hooked up only one stick using the coax I had taken out of my Mack. Still couldn't hear anyone I wasn't next to.

It has been suggested that I run a dedicated ground from the back of the radio directly to a bolt on one of the door hinges using the shortest possible wire. Not sure how to do that.

find a GOOD CB shop to check your SWR's before doing anything to your radio or truck. i was having poor signal in mine and had been told it was my coax, antennea, ground straps, and on and on.turned out to be a little oxidation on the mounts inside my mirrors.had them clean that up,which got my SWR's way down, then upgraded to "tuneable" Wilsons, and had the radio tuned up also.although i did not need to buy the new antenna(s),or peak the radio, i was just impressed that the guy went straight to the problem-fixed it for next to nothing, at that point i started wanting to spend money on better stuff, although it wasn't necessary. check the basics first-that's probably the source of your problems.

    I agree Jav jeff,

    GOOD ADVICE,
No disrespect meant here but, it sounds that you are not real familiar with CB's and I think a GOOD WELL respected CB shop will be the best bang for your buck. We were all in the learning process at one time or another & as you visit a good shop , listen to the techs there is much to learn from the good ones. I would talk to some of the drivers in your area & see if they have any techs that they could recommend. If not some of the folks here might be able to recommend someone in your area if needed.
