Ever make or miss a turn and find yourself where you should not be?

I was leaving Loudon NH going south and missed my turn onto I-84 West. 20 miles or so, i was thinking it's not this far so i got off on a UShighway, ha ha. That US Highway took me thru a little burb of a town that was barely wide enough for my tractor trailer. I thought, this is a US highway which I thought would be addequate for a big rig. 5 miles down the road I saw a sign that said I-84 with the arrow pointing UP. Another mile and I was out in the middle of old english new england type homes. I finally found a triangle type of intersection which allowed me to back around a corner to get turned around. Went back to the only sign i saw, I-84 with arrow pointing UP. I should have turn left the 1st time. Whooo never do that again. Only ended up as a 2 hour detour. I HATE CONNECTICUT!!!

 

I think like someone else said, we have all gone the wrong way at some point! I know I have ! When I was hauling asphalt it was very commen that we were sent down posted roads to pave, pulling doubles this could get ugly if you arent careful! I have had to spend some time getting in and out of the truck fearing that I was going to kill the draw bar trying to get out of somewhere that I should have not been. Not fun! Nothing like being mad at yourself and trying to get yourself out of whatever mess you got into! LOL, frusteration!! The trick is to try to stay calm and not get upset, that has taken some doing to learn.
I am now hauling trailers where I have no excuse to be on posted roads, however, on my normal route a road was closed so I took another road that looked like a big city street. I thought great, there is the street I want, so I turned onto that street that the plant was on, and as luck would have it AFTER turning onto that road, and going about a half a block there was that dreaded sign, posted, no trucks over 3 tons!! 3 TONS!!! I was over 79,000 pounds uh oh, then the road narrowed and went throuth a residential area where I could not turn around and did not know weather to turn on one of the side streets or not! So, I just crossed my fingers and kept on going to the plant, luckily I did not get caught. I did talk with the guys in the plant for a non posted route out of there, so it all worked out with no problems that time.

Thanks to everyone who is sharing stories about getting into a bad spot, it is nice to know that I am not the only one who has done this.

 

Well, I believe PC Miler does, it's never led me the wrong way. MS Streets and Trips is pretty much written for 4-Wheelers.

 

I admit it has happened to me more than once...and the last time it didn't take me long to realize I was going need some help to get turned around....the street was so narrow...there was no available place to turn a '53 foot trailer around....but the city cop was a decent man and stopped the traffic until I could get turned around...WHEW...I was so appreciative to him for his help....so I try to not get lost....

Oh, oh....not trucking PC, huh?! ha ha Most drivers will do at sometime....key is, is to know what you're doing and to do it safely!! Legal in AZ!! But, it's not for newbies or the 'faint of heart.'......

 

In this industry, a u-turn is properly referred to as a "double-left" turn, which I've never seen a posted warning against, lol.

 

Let's see.... my first time in Chicago.... took a wrong exit, thanks to all the confusing construction on 90/94... at the top of the exit at the stop sign was a homeless man, so being the nice guy I am, I gave him a couple dollars. Realizing that I could not just get right back on the highway, I made a right turn and followed whatever signs I thought would help me find my way back on track... ended up going down a narrow street and eventually coming to a bridge. Quickly realized I was not going to fit under that bridge LOL A building of some sort was under construction, and when some of the workers there saw the pickle I was in, came over and helped me get turned around. There was a traffic cop standing at the corner before I got to the bridge, looking at me like I was the biggest idiot in the world (Ya think????) LOL The construction workers were really cool about it all. They told me how to get back to the highway and I got back where I was supposed to be. The next few times I had to go to Chicago were better, didn't get lost or make any wrong turns.... just pays to pay more attention to road signs... especially in construction zones. Seems like the whole city of Chicago is always under some sort of road construction... LOL

 

Hehehe .... I picked up a load in Oak Hill, OH .... got the directions from the truck boss on the route to deliver .... said to take Us 93 south into US 60 then to I 64

LOL .... I ended up in Ironton, OH (KY) following the signs for 93 .... next thing I know I am in the middle of downtown Ironton .... NOT a place for a truck .... had no idea where I was going .... but the signs DID say truck route .... maybe for a straight truck

A couple of the turns I had to make were basically 2 lane streets .... each turn I had to put the truck half over the curb so that I didnt take out the foolish 4 wheelers that wouldnt stay back

Then finally came to a bridge that was for less than what I was .... said oh well .... had to a a u turn basically to get on it .... that is the way that it was set up .... got going on there .... and still got lost because 93 disappeared and 60 was no where to be found

Finally got to I 64 .... later that day talked to the truck boss .... told him the directions from the plant to 64 were f*****d up and that luckily I didnt have to call telling them that I took out a couple cars

Next time will find a better way out of there

 

i think you should have hit 52 up to the ashland bridge and across to 60. you must have went down where i see them signs saying no trucks.lol i got in a little bind over there once looking for hanging rock.
