I don't mind asking for help, never have minded. Either you ask for help, or you stand there looking stupid.... not much of a choice to me.

I will give you a perfect example of me trying to be a "nice" driver this morning only to have it flung back in my teeth..

This happened not an hour ago at the flying j. At the risk of sounding like a girl (lol) it hurt my fricking feelings! ;)

I pulled in to the fuel lane after what honestly had just been a really long night, i was already in a bad mood and SNI still hadn't figured out how to maneuver his rig so as not to block four of the other lanes while waiting to get into the one he wanted. It required some creative maneuvering on my part to get into the OPEN lane beside him. At any rate, it was one of those where the left pump is a little offset from the right and has a shorter hose and i hadn't noticed in when i pulled in. As soon as i realized it i walked back to the truck that was waiting behind me to let him know that i was going to back up a few feet but not to worry, that i knew he was there and not going to be coming that far back, also to gauge the distance i had.

Now, he had seen me get out of the truck, seen my swipe my card, seen me put in my information, seen me open the tank place the nozzle, walk around to the other side and realize i had to move...i say that to stop anyone from offering the defense for him that he might have thought i was a vagrant or scammer or something.

Anyway, as i walk down the back of my trailer and towards his window he is eagle eye staring at me with this glare on his face, i get level with his window and all he does is turn and glare at me, so i smile and motion for him to open the window. After giving me his best (i suppose) disgusted to even be breathing the same air as you look, he cracks the window and i say "sorry, but i overshot the pump a little and I'm going to back up a few feet, just didn't want you to worry that i might hit you" he rolls his eyes, looks disgusted and rolls his window up without so much as a f you.

I find that behavior inexcusable. Honestly. What possible excuse is there to behave like towards someone? Do not give me any of that irritation with rookie mistakes crap either. That does NOT excuse acting like a horses hind end. Nor did me backing up a few feet discommode him IN ANY WAY. I did not ask him to move, just informed him that i would be backing up and he needn't move.

A very similar situation occurred a few weeks ago at a tiny pilot in...somewhere. I pulled in, pulled all the way up as i was just running in for a drink, when i came back out there was a truck in the fuel lane fueling. I got back in my truck and was getting ready to move when a wrecker swooped in and hooked up to a bobtail, directly in front of me. I couldn't move until he did, but also knew that the driver behind me likely didn't know that. So i walked back there to let him know what the hold up was. His behavior was almost identical to that of the poop stain at the flying J this morning.

That is the kind of crap I am talking about. I have never been a violent person in my entire life...but sometimes some of these jerks really make me question why I have never been a violent person.

The only...and I mean only thing that keeps me and most of my biker buddies from shooting Darwin award candidates is believing that they will eventually have to answer to a higher power for their actions. Ok, that and I've heard that jail is not really a great place to stay... :0)

I would have given him my best "diva-girly-I-will-be-just-as irrational-as-you" cussing and then took my sweet time fueling up.

Meh. There is no justification for those supertruckers. I guess maybe ignore the ones who know what their own backsides taste like and appreciate the ones who help. I honestly gave people too much credit...or maybe its a flatbedder thing.

Believe me when I tell you this ... you will witness it for yurself the longer you are a truck driver ... even the Super Truckers will overshoot the fuel pump at times, on occasion they clash a gear, yes on occasion they will need you to unhook at a dock so they can get in next to you ... even ask you to help them free up a sticking tandem next to a scale ... unfortunately most often they will just be the "poop stain". You seem from your posts to be the kind of trucker we need more of out here ... and there are more of us than them ... now put that gun down.

I think some people are more sensitive than others and tend to take personally what others would not even bother even to think about. What helped or helps me is to stop driving for a megacarrier, have a positive image and attitude on the road and in life in general, taking care of yourself and your equipment.

As far as being for yourself out there, the deal is that after your training with mentor is over- you actually are,so why long face? It is nice to be offered help but I understand when people have their own things happening and I just do not expect much.

When it comes to being polite and what not around a truck stop,it is not really a Bolshoi Theatre or even a public library. I wish everebody had a degree in Social Dynamics but some folks did not graduate from high school .

1st off all, this was never a brotherhood, not really, only the unions claimed that status, before deregulation.
The day dreamers that have come on board making noise since then are only making believe, there are exclusions but that only applies to a few companies that have developed the driver for driver philosophy within their own ranks...ie...maybe walmart and Estes and such
The organized trucker watches truckers back role has been decimated to a few waves, and god help us as to anyones real qualifications out here, the carriers as stated previous post wouldnt want that back in any form anyways, think of what empowerment this would then bring on to the working class trucker?

slowed down with a guy trying to pass never left him hangin in the fast lane
and MOVED our trucks out of the fuel islands
    common coutesy isn't very common
