Roehl does CDL training, I should know because I head out there Sunday. But they might turn you down, but it's worth a shot.

I see all these postings about schools but none really talk about what the driver should know about the schools and what to expect when you're out to get a job. Take a look at some of the changes so you'll know and little more http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/registration-licensing/cdl/cdl.htm. You can find companies that will train you to drive and there are a few that are good (so I've been told) However, you will be contractual signed to that company for a peroid of time to payback the expenses for the school. Check to see how many students have drop out, that's also for any school. At these schools you'll need to find out what the repay rate will be and what will happen if you quit before your payback is in full. I would have a lawyer look it over. Then there's always the issue (could be true may not) if the company knows you're signed on then you get all the loads nobody wants . Mostly the short low paying loads and then you'll know.
If you can get the cash either by loan or someone, you should check into a good reputable school that has to meet the standards of the PTDI and go for the one that has the best to offer for you- List -

Look out for requiters, ask around if there's been any students thrown out for no cause, and just check around to see if their operation is professional or not. Look over the trucks if they have the classroom and so forth. It cost a lot of money so you want to make sure you see what you're getting into.
Do NOT try to slide by any tickets or information you'll be asked later because it will hurt you in the long run. Be up front with arrests or tickets during your interviews so they will be all on board. Have nothing in you system that MIGHT come up positive ( both in your body and in your records). Take notes and make sure everyone knows what has been said.T...Street Thanks this. -

You are in a very difficult position having 2 DWIs. There are a number of companies that won't hire someone that has had more than 1 DWI EVER (some won't allow any). This reduces the number of companies you can ever be hired onto. Add to that your location in Oregon (outside many trucking lanes) and you are narrowing your options even more. I'm sure there are companies out there, though again it may be quite difficult find them. If you can find a way to go to an independent school locally (many will work with employers to help arrange financing regardless of credit) that might be a better way. They will qualify you first and tell you if there are any employers in their pool who would take you on.

As far as I know, there are 2 Truck Driving schools in the Portland, Oregon area, Elite and IITR and I talked to somebody at Elite today as well as IITR in 2009 and 2010, with no luck. I attempted to get the VA to pay for it, but the Portland VR & E office is pathetic. I'm well aware that I shot myself in the foot 12 years ago, but I didn't think it would haunt me for the rest of my life. All these supposed help for veterans that advertise just point us to resources that are obvious. ie. Employment Department, VA etc. Nothing special for Veterans who don't have Montgomery GI Bill or Post 9/11 GI Bill.
