I've only been doing flats, here, for a little over 2 years. Before my husband retired, we did van/drom combo AA&E for 12 years.
90% of my loads come from the load board, although I do get repeat business from a number of Agents. Some actively track me and I send out blast emails with my where abouts and photos of my latest loads.
It's a lot different to call someone that has a load and is looking for a truck, than calling someone that you hope has freight and is hopefully willing to put it on you.

The real salesmen are the Agents. They not only have to sell the customer on LS, then they have to sell us, to pull the loads.

Not typically. Should, but we don't always have that information either. Most of what I do I do off google maps which is just as easy for you to pull up on your laptop or ipad.

Does the phrase "Complete and accurate dispatch" ring a bell? :biggrin_25522:

That's the only way to do it, is to double check the directions on something like google maps. With some of the people giving directions to places, they are OBVIOUSLY not familiar with truck routes. :biggrin_2551: There is a reason for the phrase 'Blond Star'!:biggrin_2559:

We get calls and can't take the loads. We send the calls to Landstar, for now.

What are the start up costs with Landstar when you first start with them? My tractor is paid off but do I have to put out money for registration, IFTA, base plate, etc. What kind of capital should I have saved up for those first couple of weeks?

No upfront money required. You can pull advances as soon as you book loads.
