Made it to second stop. Looks like I might not get loaded till about 19:30 so I'll watch my hours tick away. Might do an 8 hr break so I'll have 5 hours to drive when it's over. Instead of the 2 or 3 hours that may be available when loaded. We will see.

Got loaded with only 15 mins left on the 14. 2 hours left before 8 hour break. Was going to go ahead and take the whole 10 but might go ahead and drive the 5 hours still left after 8 hour break. Will have to stop and get some toll money. Just wondering how much the truck stop is going to charge since I won't be getting fuel. My fuel stop is right after the tolls so that doesn't help much. Anyway back to trying to figure out how I'm going to do all this. Good night.

Real Time update. Took 10 hr break. Only cost a 1.20 to get cash advance from the casino truck stop not bad. Fighting heavy fog in Oklahoma so I'm going to get a nap and hopefully it will burn off in a few. Toodalou till next time on Real time.

Real Time update. Last night I scaled out at the plant. Scale said I was 80,000 and I was a little heavy on the trailer. So I moved up 1 hole and knew I would have time to burn off some fuel. The scale isn't a cat scale and it had numbers on scale b4 I got on there so I had to go ahead and scale again before I hit Kansas scales. I was already close to full and I have my fuel stop close to the Kansas scale. So before I fueled I wanted to see what my weight was.
So I subtracted 80,000- 79440 and got 560. So then I divided that by 8 which is about how many pounds a gallon of diesel is. I got 70.
So I put 60 gallons in truck and 10 Gallons in the reefer.
I also slid my tandems up 1 more hole to put less weight on trailer and more on tractor. Then I reweighed load..
Now going to see if I can't get away with 100 pounds over on the drive. I was going to by pass scale if it was too much more but I have never had a problem with a 100 over on a axle. So we will give you an update more later. Time to hit the road. And somebody said I was a steering wheel holder. Truck it UP!!scottied67 Thanks this. -
Pulled the brakes in Russel Kansas. Still about 360 miles out. About 6 hours. Appointment's not until 9:30 mountain time. May leave at 12am mountain time to see if I can't get this off early. Then head to the second stop which is an hour up the road. Apt time is 12pm. Still no pre plan for after delivery.
I'm glad I wasn't heavier. I didn't count on the Oklahoma scale being open. I got the red light on pre pass and they rolled me in and on through. Same with Kansas. Probably have already burned off that 100 lbs but I know for sure I will have burned it off by the time I hit the Limon scales but I think they are closed. Well time for some shut eye. We are going to power up for that midnight drive. C'yascottied67 Thanks this. -
Thank you for this thread. I'm a new Millis driver who's been on my own for two weeks (inclduing hometime of 5 days). I have been working hard on trip planning since being by myself. The hardest part for me so far has been finding a certified scale before a state scale I71 exit 50 coming from cincinnati for example the state scale is right before the truck stop. And I'm having a hard time knowing how far I can get to maximize my profit and using my hours and still getting a spot to sleep for the night.
Dinomite and scottied67 Thank this. -
Mostly that will come with time. You will have those days were you can't find a certified scale and just have to take the risk of being over weight. Or you can look for a way around the scale. Sometimes those routes are not fun. I use the mileage on my gps to help me figure out how far it will be to my destination. Also you have to know the area you might be stopping in. If its close to a city you might not find a spot. You might even have to try to get a quick shower in route and park at a rest area or at the receiver if they have parking available. Like I said this doesn't happen over night and you have and advantage since you have a cell phone or a lap top to get on the internet to see if a particular place might have parking. If you don't have 1 yet I would get a lap top and a wireless card. Not sure how Millis Pre plans but when you are pre planned on next load. Knowing that will help you with your time as well. Instead of sitting and waiting while your time ticks away. Take it easy and stay safe.
Also feel free to post your loads on here maybe someone might be familiar with where you are going and can tell you what's on the route and where the best parking is for that time of day. I'm sure if you ask questions on the millis threads as well since they probably go to a lot of the same customers.scottied67 Thanks this. -
Well Just been pre planned. Not a very good one, but something is always better then nothing. Load miles is 506 MT miles is 20. Picking up in Greeley Co 11/22/12 8am Deliver Omaha Ne 11/23/12 6am.

Real Time update. Just checked in at first stop for my 0900 mountain time apt. Today was not a good day. One of those days where you just can't wake up. This is why I try to plan myself with lots of wiggle room on the last part of the trip.
Was going to leave at 12am mountain time. But was sleepy so I set clock for another hour. Didn't want to get up at 1 am but forced myself so that I still had a good hour or so to take a power nap if I got sleepy down the road. Which came in handy because 3 hours and some change later I was hitting a truck stop for a power nap. Got a good hour and hit the road and about about 30 mins or so I was in my Amarillo by morning zone. But that's why it was not good because I couldn't get a 6 hour trip completed straight. Still made it with time to spare, but that's just one of the dangers about night driving. You never know when your body is going to want to rest when your load is saying it needs to be there.
Got another preplan right b4 I got to my stop. Picking up in Grand Island 11/23/12 00:30 even though my apt for Omaha is 11/23/12 6 am. But I still have plenty of time to make it to Chicago by 1600 on the 11/24/12. Load miles is 571 mt miles is 136. Give another update when I get to second stop. Also I might even be able to pick up load that picks up tmrw morning today. Because they probably will have it loaded early so they can have off tmrw. But never know with these meat plants. Have a great day.scottied67 Thanks this. -
Good job Dinomite!
You may get a crappy load or two this week. Holidays really screw up freight! I would make sure to call ahead to the receiver to make sure they are going to be there. My whole trip got shambled this week because of the holiday last minute because the receiver didn't realize the holiday delivery date and time.
Good job though man, you are doing well in your calculations!scottied67 and Dinomite Thank this.
