Security measures add driver's license bumps for truckers

About two years ago, Clint Meredith stood in line to renew his commercial driver's license, a deed he said he could do without.
Every year, he said, there seems to be some sort of a change in requirements for CDL drivers who also have HAZMAT endorsements on their license. Meredith said each year, the Department of Public Safety seems to want a little more information when renewing a license, and on his last trip, he was asked for his Social Security card for verification.

Motorists throughout Texas with a CDL are having to bring their Social Security cards when they renew their license. DPS also is requiring they bring in a copy of their security clearance from their employer if they haul hazardous materials. Since 1990, all prospective motorists have had to bring a Social Security card with them when taking their permit or driver's exams.

its been a pain around here, ive been studying to get my hazmats(dont need them , but makes me a more marketable driver)
when i looked into getting them , i was shocked how much i have to go though to get them...im happy that they care about safty but seriously is this much really needed?
