I have been offered 2 different jobs...one at Pepsi as a Bay truck driver, or one with the USPS as a local truck driver. Both seem to have their good and bad points from what I am reading on here, but I was just wondering if YOU had it to do, which would you choose?
Have a choice to make...Pepsi or USPS

My knee-jerk reaction would be Pepsi. I base that solely on the financial troubles that the USPS has been facing in recent years.
It's sad, but I think USPS will (theoretically) fold before Pepsi. So, from a job security standpoint, I say Pepsi.
Take my opinion with a grain of salt, as I am still a newbie driver and have no knowledge whatsoever of the internal workings of either company.

USPS; no question which I would choose. I've seen too many beverage drivers with bad backs at young ages.
the flying scotsman and drvrtech77 Thank this. -

When did the postal service start hiring rookies. Gota love this forum.

Well, I think a lot depends on where you are, and what the local Pepsi outfit is like. But from what I have seen of management at some of the Pepsi outfits, I'd say don't just walk away, but RUN. Particularly if it is a smaller, non-union operation.
The job itself is hard physical work. OK, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, in fact, it actually has a lot of benefits to you. Provided you keep yourself in shape to do the job. But what I am talking about, are the company policies and procedures at some of these outfits. You are not working for a giant PEPSI Corp. You are working for some clown who has a Pepsi distributorship. Can be OK, or can be a nightmare.
USPS is what it is. Pretty much totally mindless rote work. But the pay isn't bad, and the bene's are good. Right now. But who knows what a few years will bring with it. -
having a sister that works for the usps. i can say the bene's have been dramatically reduced. i really don't think she's gonna have a job there when retirement comes. in 20 years.
pepsi will be around for years to come. the usps has outlived it's usefullness just like a lot of companies have come and gone.
it won't be much longer before the mail and phone line are long gone.
people still need to send parcels. fedex and ups are strong competitors. certified letters can't keep the post office in business.
but let's face it. people no longer send letters. except for your kids in military boot camp. they use email now.
your cell phone or other utility. gives you a $3 discount for paperless billing. and a webaddress to pay your bill. ONLINE. along with car payments and house payments and what not.
i've got a box of checks when i first opened my bank account 5 years ago. not one check has been written. everything i do. is done online. only thing i get in the mail anymore are those dumb ads that just get thrown in the trash.
yes sir, the pony express will soon end. just like the telegraph system faded back when the phone first came out. which will also fade by way of cell phones.
everything comes and goes. -
One thing you don't always hear about from Pepsi is some of there DC's shut down for months at a time. The Gatorade DC in Indy shuts down from Oct till Jan every year.

So, I must ask, what are you talking about?
Just tryin to stir the proverbial pot tonight?
That didn't take long to make me second guess myself. Ahh we'll, like I said, I'm a newbie & still have a lot to learn. Thanks for all the good info.
