Is is becoming more difficult to make money traveling OTR?

I was talking to a driver who said traveling OTR...is becoming cost prohibitied because of fuel costs. His plan was to stick to Intra-state driving.

What are the pro's and con's of this...

    thanks very much.

For owner operators, fuel costs are a real challenge and make business planning difficult, but even they raise their rates. The nations freight hauling depends mostly on OTR, from the ports (importing Chinese made goods) to the stores nationwide. So, fuel costs go up, this cost is bumped over to the consumer, not the driver.
