Agreed. If brokers banded together and told shippers that they weren't willing to move their freight for less than $X, things might change a bit.

Banding together and setting a minimum price? Kinda sounds like (illegal) price fixing.

Look at it the other way... if you're a shipper, transportation cuts into your profit margin. Difficult to pay for the groceries if your making the truckers rich!

I'm flatbed o/o and my home town is in CT, full loads from NYC, NJ, CT to IL or WI paid $ 900.00 !!!! I can't understand who take this rate. This week a few brokers try to move a Forklift from Boston to Chicago by $ 350.00 That is ridiculus!!!

I have been at home two weeks now trying to find a load around $2/mile and in two weeks I have not found one 3 years ago I would just name my price it doesn't do any good to come back at them with your price they don't care

I had my truck posted on ITS had a broker call me when I'm on the phone she says hold on and picks up the 2nd line tells the guy about the load and talk price he took the load for $1.25 a mile while I'm on the other line soon as he said ya I'll take it click hung up on me she must of had him on speaker phone because I could hear the hole thing

Two weeks ago in Chicago everyone has said there pulling $3/mile freight out of there well it was all gone by the time I got there because I never seen it, so going there for $1.50/mile don't do any good your coming out at $2/mile, freight is dead I don't care what anyone says I use to call on a load hang up call on a few more can't find anything better call on that first one and give my price 30min later and would say sounds good now it's posted you see it by the time you push the numbers they already have a bite on the line and when they get to your call the load that was posted less than 30 sec ago is already covered by the first guy that call

Had one yesterday going to NC on 1,188 miles from Houston when I called he said it pays $1,100 I said no not the LTL load the full load he said yes this is a full load I said will it work in my pick up he said NO I ask why are you giving pick up truck rate? He than said he had 10 of these loads and all got covered for that when I said that's what fuel would cost he hung up on me

Drivers don't stand together in this country all they care about is paying the note and keeping there house paid next week I don't have a choice with the end of the year on top of us I have to make something this month so I have waited out as long as I can so as long as these brokers are getting 20 calles a hour on a load it going to stay cheap and they say there is a DRIVER SHORTAGE!! that's just BS I see lots of drivers just parked because they can't make a living at prices there giving

And one more thing my insurance jumped big time this year I'm with progressive I'm going from $24,000 a year to $37,000 so even more out of pocket

The days of getting paid ( by the brokers) a rate that we can actually see a reasonable profit for the truck are gone. Even many direct customers have dropped the rate per load/ per mile to the point that the truck comes out upside down on load ( a brokers over head for 1 load is very very small compared to the trucks overhead) And it's very sad. Way too many fingers in the pie, for there to be a profit on each truck and each load.
The only way I believe this will be resolved is ..... By not accepting low paying loads! Plus if all truckers could somehow unite and ( maybe lobby??:) for fair rates, we just might get out of the hole we are in.
so I say.... Let that low paying load sit in the warehouse!!! If all of us do that rates just might change.

:) just my 2 cents worth :). And I'm sure many of you here have the same feelings ( sure hope u do!!)
