I'm gonna tell you, I just stay around the southeast because all the crap coming out of Ga going west isn't even paying close to what it should be especially considering there isn't a #### thing coming back east. I've gotten to the point with these idiot brokers and their cheap rates that I flat out tell them they are stupid and good luck. I also tell the ones who want loads tarped that they need to call a dry van to haul it cause common sense will tell you a flatbed is open for a reason. Not a single driver out here will stand up and agree the rates are crap and protest and park cause nobody has the balls. I've heard this we need to stand up and do something B.S. till I'm blue in the face and I sure would like to see it happen but it never will. All these company drivers would still keep right on going and not even blink an eye and we would still be left holding the bag with nothing to show for the wasted time. I understand now why things got so violent back in the 70's when the big strike happened, cause the only way to stop these idiots is to get physical and shut them down. I'm #### sure not gonna give up on this but some days it sure sounds like a good idea, I can promise you that if your truck is paid off or not this day and time you will just break even if your lucky and maybe make just a little. We started on our own in July and I haven't paid myself a dime yet, it's been going back into the company and keeping things going. If you got into this business to be a millionaire you picked the wrong one, I'm hoping the new year will bring a little better for all of us and I'm gonna keep on along and do my best because once you hit the bottom the only way from there is up so as it stands now with the rates like they are they couldnt get much worse. I've got my operating costs figured out and I don't dare budge from what I need or I won't haul it. If you notice on any of the load boards these crap paying loads sit there for 2 and 3 days now and even some of the brokers have figured out the rates suck, just don't haul it for less than 2.00 a mile as a good starting point and #### sure don't think about going west for anything under $3 and if enough of us stick to our guns we might just make it.
Why oh why are you drivers taking this cheap freight????

Called this morning on a load, Broker went through his BS, Picks up at Midday and has to be in Louisvile KY at Midnight, So its a hot load I assume (should never assume) 559 miles paying $550.00 I ask him does he realize its 559 miles and he says yeah move em all the time for that price my answer, ty for your time and have a nice day!
But im betting some O/O will take that load to get back to a better freight area!
That broker goes in my do NOT call book!scottied67 Thanks this. -
All day every load i call on is $1/mile - $1.30/mile called on one to NC was a tarp load and paid $1,100 on 1100 miles 47,000lbs said he moved 3 last week at that price that alot of brokers had these loads so he had to bid low to get them WTF!!!
Told one today what my cost was he said i should work on getting that number lower........scottied67 Thanks this. -
Is this not a slow time of year for flats and steps? Too many trucks, too little freight? Comon guys I'll be singing the blues for several weeks after New Year's when dry van goes to pot. That is why the game plan after New Year's includes hauling only what good paying freight pops up from established contacts, if that, and/or hibernating at the house til things pick back up. Not in the game plan is going out there and trying to make something when there's nothing there.
gokiddogo, HwyPrsnr and scottied67 Thank this. -

I just hope it picks up the same or better from end of Feb thru July. I don't know if this year was just one of those years but I was kicking ### and taking names pulling in, to me anyways, unbelievable numbere in that time frame I never dreamed possible with a van.. Like to see a whole year like that maybe in 4 years if we still have a country right?
