IS THERE ANY COMPANYS THAT HAVE W900 or Pete 379

I KNOW that what I'm about to say is borderlining on out and out HERESY in the truckdriving fraternity...BUT...

I just spent a week in a Peterbilt...and it was one of the worst weeks in my driving career. I was in training for pulling a tanker...so the choice of the truck just wasn't mine.

I've got a bad left knee...the Pete has no room for me to stretch out my left leg. No stretch=PAIN...lots of PAIN.

Couple the fact that the Pete has no leg room with the fact that it has limited cab room, poorly placed mirrors, rides like a buckboard and has a cupholder that I still can't find in the dark...and I'll take a Freightshaker any day. I sucked it up and just dealt with the discomfort...it was just for a week and I knew it would pass.

Now...Monday...the 3 of us that just went through the tanker training will be taken to Waco to pick-up our trucks from one of the companies other yards. The company runs Petes and Freightliners. I'll get a Freightliner.

The typical I've just got to have a Pete attitude runs deep in the new company as well...so, I'll have no problem getting my Freightliner.

 

What model Pete and what was the wheel base?

There's no way you were talking about a ex hood 127BBC with a 63" + sleeper ?!?!

As an O/O I would be standing in line for neither, Company, I would stand in line for the Freightliner.

That's a no brainer there. While we're on the topic (no brains) I noticed Amarillo Pete was selling a NEW one for $116K complete with a 28 inch sleeper 2 years ago.

If the old saying, "You get what you pay for is true", then the old saying "There's a sucker born every minute" is even more so.

Based on ride, looks and chick appeal.

Cadillac sells a 4 wheel drive Escalade. And they are one of the top tier luxury models.

That said, would you pay the $50K plus for it? Or would you buy a GMC 4x4 for $22K to rip through the woods with?

I can't possibly look cool with a gutted deer on the hood of an Escalade.

 

Suffice it to say that when JobHunt, or Swift REALLY wants some drivers to come aboard, they will offer 379 Petes as a marketing/recruiting tool.

I'll also add that IMO most here who have a ##### of some sort about 379 Petes have never driven one.

This was a short hood day cab Pete. I couldn't tell you the model #

We're set up for max load capacity with the tankers and end dumps...so home every day and minimal driver comforts. I know...day cabs are a different animal than a sleeper truck of any make....price I am willing to pay to be home and still earn a decent living.

The Columbias we've got are much better comfort wise...for me anyway...and they still don't have the leg room a Columbia condo does. But better than the Pete.

 

That explains why it rode like crap - very short WB. Also, ANY truck pulling a smoothbore tank will ride like ....you guessed it , crap. Even the one in my Avatar rode slightly worse pulling a milk tank, as opposed to a refer.

If ya still prefer a Freightliner, even after driving a Pete, then I'll give ya some credit. Your opinion matters per the truck you desire.

It's the newbie/steering wheel holders who've never driven a 379 Peterbilt, yet have strong negative opinions on these trucks, that I find laughable.

Company drivers opinions mean little to me when they are extolling the negative virtues of a Pete.

I guess that makes me old fassion here, as this website is seemingly LOADED with newbs. Hey no offense, just my old fassion opinions getting in the way LOL
