I know that their new president Scott is a total jerk. He used to work at useless express. Run away before he throws you out the door!

Don Digby aka Navajo Express,Voyager Express, Westco. Back in the day my Dad pulled Curtiss- Digby trailer around. They've been around a long time and have their fingers in a lot of jars. Reputation has sure went downward over the years though!

 

Forgot to add Cargo Express as another Digby enterprise.

 

I worked for Don 20 years ago there still the same. screwing the pooch nothing wil ever change over ther watch out for phoenix az also.

 

My Dad pulled for him back in the 70's and they have gotten worse every year since from what I've seen and hear about.

I studied (as much as one can) all the posts and blog sites regarding Navajo before selecting them for my 1st OTR driving Job in 2012. I THOUGHT I had done my proper due diligence, but I really should have been talking to the drivers instead of reading the blogs.

Equipment is good (for the most part) and maintenance is a focal point in their operations. Upper management is good and treat you well, but the culture at Navajo in the Road Repair, Dispatch and Planner Departments reflect the true attitude of this "use & abuse company".

Loads are not a problem, but as the OP posted, most are already late when assigned, and there is PRESSURE to log all On-Duty time as Off-Duty or Sleeper. In this manner they can get more than the 70hrs per week. Expect 90hrs to 100hrs if you want to make decent money. I was told they wanted to see no more than 30 minutes per day of on-duty time (not driving), regardless of circumstance, and anything else would be considered as inefficieint use of my time.

The departments mentioned above speak to the drivers as if they are uneducated monkeys. I haven't been treated with such disrespect since boot camp in the US Army. I had more than one load forced on me after refusing the preplan due to lack of hours to fulfill. I woke up one morning in Upstate New York to see that I was already late to a load assignment they forced through while I was on my 10hr break. When I complained and requested a new dispatcher, I was accused of being a cry-baby and told me I didn't understand what being a driver was all about.

The "straw that broke the back" was about Holiday Home Time for me.... You are supposed to earn one day for each week out, but when you try to claim your home time, the manipulation goes into high gear. In my case, my home time route was predicated on accepting a 300 mile double stop run to the Canadian/NY border (not on the way and in the middle of storm), then after finally picking up my home load, I was diverted only 300 miles out from home and sent to Cheyenne for relay, then sent for another load, and then yet another. I finally got home one day after my relatives had left. Yeah... they love to make you jump through hoops to get the hometime already earned. Classic manipulation.

Net result: I missed Christmas and was a week late getting my scheduled home time... and.... after being our for 5 weeks they allowed me a few days before demanding I show up again for another 4 week rotation.

I showed up as directed .... and quit.

I know we gotta pay our dues in this industry, but I for one won't stay with a company that has no little regard for their drivers or the drivers families.

As long as drivers take the abuse, trucking companies will continue to dish it out. Power Trip to the "n-th" degree.

Best thing to due is cut your losses and move on ... don't allow yourself to be used and abused. There are too many other opportunities with other Trucking Companies.

 

Well like I said 20 years later and nothing has changed they did simialer stuff to me , if anyone asked me I would tell then like you said cut your losses and move on .

 

Scott is one of the Executive Level Management Team that has shown a genuine interest in changing the culture at Navajo. He reached out to me just today to offer his assistance in resolving the issues that caused me to leave, adding "We want to keep drivers of your caliber."

He wants me to reconsider my resignation. I am impressed that he would offer to "make things right" since no one else seemed to give a ####. I am, after-all... just a driver. I didn't think he would get involved.

I met Scott last year shortly after he came to Navajo. Without getting into the specifics, I will just say that I was left holding several hundred dollars of rent-a-car expense, and he stepped in and got me paid without me even asking for reimbursement. The payment was outside the company scope and company policy of reimbursements, yet he did so because it was obviously the right thing to do.

Thus the two interactions I have personally had with Scott have been a huge redeeming factor in my relationship with this company.

I don't yet know if I will go back, but I do know that if I do... it will be "because" of Scott. There's no one else there that I would trust enough to believe.

Sorry to hear your experience was so different than mine with regards to Scott. Not sure why there is such disparity in our opinions.
