I would worry if the dealer is not willing get a dyno done on the Pete. Its a buyers market right now so if you have a little time, I bet a deal will come your way. The good thing about buying a Peterbilt is when you are all done with it, it will still be worth something. Other brands not so much. Maybe you can find a 3 axle closer to home and turn it into a single axle? I have heard of people just taking the front drive off, getting a longer driveline with a carrier bearing. If you are running light loads, the original rear axle would probably be fine. Just my opinion, good luck with the search.
Also 13 speed, very easy to shift. Don't worry about that, if you have driven trucks before you will master it within 50 miles.

Brickhauler, I'm really looking for any kind of Pete/KW that's a little older, decent shape that is singled or that I can single. It's just that the CA trucks are priced a little lower than anywhere else that I can find.
I would love to find one closer to TX but I think I have all of the truckpaper type sites memorized by now.
You'd think any dealer would be willing to dyno (I'll eeven pay for it) to get the sale....but they are balking (and I ain't flying yet). We'll see how negotiations go....like I've said I'm not in too big of a hurry.
The 13spd is just something I haven't driven all I've stirred is a 9 or a 10. I've heard the 13spd is the transmission of choice but its just something different I guess. -
I'll make a few calls and see if the people I know, know where to get a good single axle.
13 is just like a 9, the only difference is you have the CHOICE of shifting in 250 rpm, or 500 rpm increments in gears 6-9 you can shift it the same as a nine if you want to.jcross Thanks this. -
Yes those of us that are or might be looking for a good deal on an older truck, can say thank you CARB. There will be a lot of good deals in Ca.
And as far as driving the 13 no problem Just pulling that horse trailer just shift it strait threw and just use the splitter in the top hole. 12 to 13th An the cool part will be that say you do hit a hill or a tall bridge chances are all you will have to do is split it back down to 12th you wont have to actually move the stick.jcross and Crotts Trucking Thank this. -
That WIA you had was it a Air Ride or spring.. I'm looking at a single axle 96 WIA 42 inch sleeper. Should I steer clear, I want a ride comparable to a 1 ton or better.

smp....It was spring ride and really didn't ride that bad (air ride seats and cab). But for as many used single axles out there I would get air ride for sure.
