sounds like you have done all of the things you have described in the 2nd paragraph. it is hard to split an o/o between 6 trucks! experienced drivers still call at all hours wondering what to do/ not checking fluids. most of the drivers make about a thousand a week. No one is beeing cheated, owner/operator goes above and beyond for his drivers, we just need more of them. Please do not reply to this post if you just want to complain, leave your complaints at the truck stops.

rofl. the only complaint that i recall in this entire thread is yours...something about people "not wanting to work". there are always a ton of drivers looking for a company, small or large, that will treat them fairly...pay them a decent wage, deal with them professionally, get them home.
the scenario you posed originally implies this is not one of those. though now youve changed the parameters again (care to explain how at 1500-2000 miles per week you get to 1k at 32 cpm? even at 3000 miles its still a bit short, and with 6 trucks youd think the guy who has been tasked at least with helping to find new drivers would have a clue what the REAL average miles were...not too hard to divide by 6).

you essentially are running a small grocery store on a street that has 20 assorted walmarts, targets, etc. they all pay 10 bucks an hour, and you are in here complaining that you cant find any decent employees while you are offering 7 bucks an hour. your grocery store can find employees, but you are gonna have to contact the parole officers in town to see what recent parolees are looking for work. you are NOT going to find good drivers with any experience (forget 3 years, you cant compete for 6 month experience guys) while offering so much less than they can find even with the "mills". especially when all you can do when faced with a reasoned explanation as to WHY, you resort to demeaning the person answering (sounds like you blah blah blah). this tells anyone with a brain that you will be a horrible person to work for...if you cant even treat people with respect when asking for help/advice, how will you treat your employees when pretty much what you say goes?

the answer to your question is simple, and its been said over and over again in this thread. you simply are not offering a fair wage. if you really want to attract experienced drivers with a decent record to work for you, 40 cpm is the bare minimum you should be offering.. you still may have a hard time attracting them at that price, as you offer no benefits. a TRUE fair wage for a small company like yours usually involves paying by percentage of each load hauled. but youd better start a new thread...anyone seeing this one and connecting it to your company would be REAL hesitant about working for you. learn to treat others with some respect.

Even 40 cents a mile is cheap if you can't offer similar benefits that the megas do 401K with matching, health/dental, paid vacation after so much senority... Would your rates support that? Just guessing here that's a package that will probably cost you about 60 cents a mile.

You are doing something very wrong if those are your largest expenses. You need to get a new tax man and new equipment if that is the case.

Fuel alone for 2000 miles a week at 7mpg costing 4 bucks a gallon for 52 weeks will be almost $60,000.00 for just one truck.

You saying your taxes are more than that per truck or maintenance is more than that per truck?

You're asking for a steering wheel holder A guy who doesn't know how to use a tire pressure gauge and calls u when a light bulb goes at 3am when you're. Not only that but I hope the trucks can at least do 70mph because pushing their log books back for you driving for 30 hours straight Getting passed by swift who took their 10 hour break and still caught up to u. Is bs

    What a crock.
You want to pay lower rates, to go to an area that would pay a higher rate with anyone else.
You run junk (your words of wisdom regards maintenance costs, not mine), I highly doubt you pay any kind of benefits, you pay at just about the lowest end of the pay scale, and you run the crappiest lanes. Hmmm, let me wonder why you cant find good drivers.....:biggrin_2559:
then, to top it off, you start getting defensive about the replies you got, from your thread, on a public forum! Amazing.
Sorry to say it so bluntly bud, but you either have absolutely no idea of how to hire and retain good drivers, or you Sir are a crook. Benefit of the doubt would have me calling you clueless, but that is your call.

He already said it......right there! The reason the driver pay is so low is because expenses are so high. He's got his rate low to keep the customers and of course...he's going to eat so what's left is for a driver.

OP: tolls and fuel, taxes etc are not the drivers problem bud, their yours. $640 a week is chump for OTR just like 2000 a week in miles. that's JB teritory and JB has bennies and your home every night. ( Houston to Dallas beer run, drop and hook , 5 nights a week for .32 cpm) (or Fedex ground, flip Dallas every night, .32 cpm)

I trust you've seen Fedex in the ditch more often than not? there's your .32.

    Good Hunting!
