Does anyone know of a company that will hire you if you have a DUI in Commercial Vehicle 5 years old. I have just been given a shot with AZStar in NJ. But the seem super sketchy. Most companies will give you a chance after a DUI is 5 years old. But the second you mention it was in a commercial vehicle they say they can't hire you. Yes I made a very stupid mistake. Under no circumstance will I ever repeat.

I don't see why anyone would ever hire you to be honest. Not that I know whether or not they would, but I sure as hell wouldn't. So with that said maybe you should just wait until it drops off your MVR. I know in IL violations drop off your MVR after 7 years.

FINALLY. someone that makes no excuses for their behavior. in general, the problem lies with the insurance companies. there would be more companies willing to take a risk if they could, but in many cases the insurance companies call the shots on this sort of thing. the first thing id do is get copies of mvr and dac...does the offense show up there? if so, the best thing you can do if youre dead set on resuming trucking would be to just start applying. start with the worst companies you can think of (crst,england....). nothing saying you HAVE to take a job you are offered. if someone offers, you can put them off for 3 or 4 weeks and keep looking.
down side is...i think "super sketchy" is gonna be the absolute best you can hope for, until you have driven for at least a year or 2 without incident. i wouldnt hire you with that being your last trucking experience, but with 2 years incident free, and the attitude you started this thread with, i might give you a shot. assuming its the ONLY time you had a dui.
good luck...it will be a hard road to get out of the hole you dug, but its not impossible. just wont be very fun or lucrative for a while. -
Unfortunately you have to look at it from a company perspective. If they have 500 applicants with no issues on their driving record and you, who would you hire? I not making any personal judgments, but if you are being honest, what motivation would they have for hiring you?
It just may be the case where an error in judgement on your part has ended your driving career. Fair? Not for me to decide, but it is what it is. -
Jajajajaa theres a Driver shortage Over the road! Theres no 500 Drivers ahead of no one! I know you are exaggerating but the fact of the matter is that if he can learn from someone like an owner operator, he can get his CDL through the DMV and drive for someone on a craiglist job post. I had a wreck with a train and the truck overturned, my case was two months so i call an ad in craiglist and the guy gave me the keys and go drive over the road so there are loophole you can get around.

Better stick with the job offer you now have & don't leave it until you have something better locked in; might take a couple of years.

Thanks for all the feedback. I will just take the job offer I have and see what is available in 6 months to a year.

Not to be mean, but good luck with that one. Play the lotto!!! Your chances will probably be about the same!
