basically have three ways can work the 13spd tranny, shift bar itself, , flipper to go to high side ,
and then the tab that brings it to least drag at the final gear. If you know how the 5 spds work in a regular car? the 5th gear is built to have least or minimal drag? okay, now think of it this way, what if with a flip of that tab, you could reduce drag, and add an extra little shift in between 1st, 2nd and so on in that car? so, in the truck, the neat way you do this? okay, say you flip the lever, go to 6th. drive a little until the rpms come up to say 14-16,then just a second or two before letting off? push the tab over, let off the pedal almost all the way or until you feel the tiny kick or shift, then there you go, another gear is born and you are splitting the gears wholesale baby. want to shift back down with just using that 13 gear tab? to downshift?drop the rpms for a second, flip the tab, then quickly bring the rpms up until u feel the down kick and again, wallah you are splittin em back down and without moving the entire shift knob! really in a way like a motorcycle in how you use the rpms to down and up that final gear tab. 18's are even better cause you can split both high and low, rapidly.

My trainer has a 13 speed and I'm actually quite fond of it.

When I was in trucking school I drove a 10 speed. Once I got to Fontana, I finished my CDL training on a Volvo with a 9 speed. My trainer has a 13 speed and I got the hang of it before I merged onto the highway from the onramp. He even asked me, "Are you sure you've never driven a 13 speed before today? You're driving like a seasoned pro!" My advice would be to go on YouTube and check out the 13 speed shifting videos by Sean Sutherland. They helped me a lot.
