I was having some mpg issues and what I thought could possibly be an injector sticking issue. I was due for an over head and had it done at the shop in the yard I operate out of. It was running fine when i took it out for test drive bobtailing. I then get a load and take off. A couple of hundred miles later and I notice that when coming off the freeway and going to an idle the idle starts running rough (it used to be smooth) and I also notice that my power has increased. The next day things start getting a little worse and same with the next. The idle problem is still here, sounds very rough at idle and putting out a lot of smoke. When I go down the road it shudders and makes a lot of smoke and strange noises when I apply the throttle hard. each day problem gets worse. I am not sure if I should just go to the freightliner dealer and have them redo the overhead or just say not sure whats happening, lets find out. This is an 02 frieghtliner, 12.7 detroit and not putting out engine codes.
Detroit 12.7 running rough after overhead done. Need some ideas.

sounds like they may have turned up the fuel on it.

I had an injector leaking one time & I had a freightliner dealer put a 6 pack in it. the truck blew out more black smoke, but had more power, did not have to drop gears as before, but at idle it was a lil more rough & standing on the deck, flatbed) you could not breath it was strong coming out exhaust. it got better m.p.g. but sure did not like the smoke or the strong fumes. had inframe done & truck went back to it's old way's. 11.1 ser 60 det. inj set at .67. but I never knew what the dealer did. I am thinking they had my fuel turned up to .75

Thanks man, I will have them check that out

make sure that injectors were adjusted correctly as well as valves and jakes.commonly overlooked.ask mechanic in yard if he had proper injector height tool.correct valve, jake, injector lash values are on tag affixed to driver side valve cover.double check that engine number on tag matches correct engine number of truck to determine if valve cover has ever been replaced, which might give incorrect numbers for adjustment.good luck.

3 injectors out, having all six changed, they are original to engine and it has over 1,115,000 miles on them. I had an in frame about 115,000 miles ago and never replaced them. I will double check that the adjustments are correct, Thanks.
