Hello All, I work for a trucking company that has about 30+ drivers, it's a small trucking company and is located in St. Louis, MO. I have been working for 2+ years with this trucking company and last year was a really good year for me in being able to take some really great loads for high pay ~ (approximately) around $2500. So, my question for you guys is; what is the best paying freight from St. Louis, MO. Which states pay the most for a Dry Van trailer its a (2012 53' Great Dane) for those wondering. Why can't my dispatcher find any loads for me that pay around $2.50/per mile? 2012 was a great year for me and I was making real good money. Now, that 2013 started I've been sitting at home most of the time or waiting in my truck until I get a call for a good paying load. Is anyone else having a bad time negotiating with their dispatcher and not getting a good paying load, what is everyone else making per mile? Is 2013 not a great yer for Truck Drivers? Please give me the most information I can receive as I am willing to listen to any great advice I can for driving the best paying loads, best freight to move, and not getting screwed over and making miles on my truck and getting paid very low, etc.
Thank You All & Be Safe Out There!
PS: I am very picky about what freight I move

Slow time of year my friend. Lots of people are sitting at home as well. For me (i run a stepdeck trailer) this January has been non-stop with freight, I keep busy. But I know the van side is a tought market, and ST. Louis is not a very good area either for good paying freight. I usually get $4 mile from Chicago to there, but always deadhead back since there isn't anything there I want..... seems like the majority of freight out of there is paper, beer and soap. All of which don;t pay very well, but the do if they go out west towards WY/UT/MT, but then you run into the same problem and won't be able to find anything out again. Best of luck to you, and just hang in there, the slow season should let up soon enough.

Someone there should put in some work and get some dedicated acc. Those usually pay well.

I usually found the best paying freight out of St. L was in IN.
windsmith and RedForeman Thank this. -
do you honestly think that I would tell you where I get my good paying loads from?

Van is rough from now til at least early/mid march unless your dispatcher has solid contacts. I would suggest cutting the dispatcher out of the picture and taking on that role on yourself - developing your own contacts - if you want to find and stay busy with good paying freight year round. Dispatcher makes his cut regardless what rate your truck earns. Dispatch likely feels you are too picky because of that. They will never put the same effort into it as numero uno....
