Wife got me a XM roady 2. I know squat about this. Just got used to a laptop. New to high speed at home. Only PC I ever used was at home. Just coming out of the ice ages. Any of you drivers have a 4 year old at home that can talk me through this?:biggrin_2559: I would like to get this hooked up in time to at least catch Superbowl 2010:biggrin_2554: Started reading the directions. Arggh. I have a CD player, no tape player. So I need to use the wireless. Where the heck do you put the antenna? The only metal is my doors. Everything on this freightshaker is fiberglass. I am about ready to duct tape this antenna to the top of the truck as soon as I figure out how to get the stupid thing up there with out boring a hole somewhere. Pretty much all I need you to do it tell me what I haven't figured out yet. Let me fill you in on what I have figured out about this thing. I managed to get it out of the package intact!:biggrin_2554:

if you have a magnetic antenna and no place metallic, you can either attach it to the roof with sticky backed velcro, or you can make a small flat metal plate you can attach to one of your mirror arms with u bolts, and let the magnet work there. My experience is that the little magnetic antennas have a lifespan of about two years and then they start to fail.

If you have the transmitter unit, you can tune it to a frequency down around 88.1- 88.7, or 107.1-107.7 and dial that frequency into your radio. It takes a little time to set it up right, but it's time well spent. I made a bracket and attached my Roady directly to the top of my cb. If I have to move, I move the entire unit. I also bought a three plug switched outlet and have that mounted atop the cb, so the power is just one plug to move. I hve the Xm and the cell phone charger plugged in there, and have it velcroed to the top of the radio.

The problem with the new radios is because of the FCC cracking down on folks pushing too much power the transmitters are weak in the radio head. (In the old days I could transmit 1/4 mile, not any more) local stations will over power your transmitter and you'll have all kinds of static and irritation.

But if you buy a FM adapter from tss-radio (thats their home page) and hook that up you'll never change channels again. I've had one for a couple months now, and it is sooooooooooo nice to not have to change channels to get a clear channel only to have to change again in a few miles. $20 plus shipping is well worth it.

I stuck the magnetic antenna that came with mine (about the size of half dollar) on my mirror brackets....top. It seems there is enough "metal" there for it to stick.

Hey guys; I appreciate all the advise. I had to mount a bracket on the mirror as burky advised. There was no way around it. Stupid thing would not stick to anything. It is all hooked up just got to activate it and fine tune it here in a few minutes. Brick I may have to look into that.

i was at best buy tonight and i told the guy that i dont know a thing about them. he said if i didnt have a cassette player, tune the truck radio to a certain station then tune the xm to the same station but i will probably get some static. or they could sell me a part to put on the back of the truck radio to fix that problem. onlt thing is i,d have to take the radio out to do it. lol company would love that.

FM adapter is probably what he is talking about. If best buy is charging more than $25 don't buy from them. Go to tss-radio and buy from them. Taking a radio out is very easy with the right tools. Best Buy or Circuit city may even be able to sell you the right tools for the job and they shouldn't cost much. The adapter is 100% plug and play. I'll take you longer to get the radio out and put it back than it will to hook up the adapter. I love mine, no more static.
