I upgraded Monday. We had three people there, one didn't pass and has to go back out with a trainer. I don't mean to brag, but Kevin (safety in Fontana) told me I got 100% on the driving and backing parts. I really want to thank my trainer Tim.

They went ahead and sent me home since they did not have a truck ready for me. I'm going to call Wednesday to see if Martin has anything. The other guy who upgraded at the same time as me is doing a recovery in Stockton and then is going to take it home to Modesto to wait for his son, who he is going to team with (son will be in to upgrade later in the week.)

So they take away a 300 mile shortie drop and hook and give me a 90 mile with 2 live deliveries that will be 36 hours late and might be a driver unload at 99, which to top it off might make me sit a day in Philly before taking me. Some days I wish I could properly convey outrage through the qc.

I guess I can convey outrage. Got them to pull the load when I told my dm just how bad of a load it was. I'd rather get a 34 than do that bs. I'm nearly out of hours as it is.

Lady K and Ice Train Thank this.

Sometimes you have to stand up for yourself (nicely)... If you don't they will continue to shovel stuff your way... Good for you!!

Since you, Lady K, seem to know a lot about Central. My husband and I are looking into them for him to go on as a company driver. He really doesn't intend to become O/O anytime soon, but is that something they encourage? I'm wondering because I've heard many horror stories about them and a recruiter told us that even though he's been out of the truck a few years since his Class A is current and the DOT physical card is also current because his job now requires it. (He's a heavy equipment mechanic now) He drives their tri axle dumps occasionally. OK--the recruiter told us that if he came up and scheduled a road test, they might be able to put him on the road with a trainer for so many weeks and then on his own. Question is, do you recommend them for solo drivers? I know you can't necessarily name another company to go with, but so far, we keep hitting dead ends when it comes to him not having "recent" experience and not having gone into debt for another $6000 for tuition. Thanks ahead of time for any advice!

I agree completely. They don't usually give me bad loads like that, and I've made the right amount of noise in the past so that when they do they usually give me something good to back it up, but this was the worst I'd ever seen. Overall I can't complain. Just checked my performance report for January and I ran 13001 paid miles.

Of course they encourage it.. It's good business sense for THEM... However, unless he is thinking about training .... maybe, as a solo I would HIGHLY discourage it!! Even if he does think about training... If he wants any type of home life, I wouldn't!! However, as a company... Yes I would recommend them. For a solo company driver (or a team) yes I would recommend them. Stick with them, and I have found for the most part they will work with you... They are in the business to make money... Just like every other company... So in that respect they are no better, nor worse than the other 'starter' companies... However from the stories I've been told from drivers of other companies... I'm REALLY glad we went with Central as our starter company!

New student is doing great. He's got the driving part whipped in the first week. Now time to try him by fire. LoL.
