US Express announced this week that it was shutting down it's Lexington, NC (Charlotte) Terminal immediately. In fact, they walked in one day and closed it with no notice not even telling other terminals they were doing it. What do you think this means about USX? Are they in trouble or simply retrenching.

Usx shuts down terminals and reopens new ones all the time. They don't feel like they need to be positioned in that area anymore. The fleet message we got was that just the shop was no longer available.

They are far from any financial problems as well. I dont think many people realize what a financial powerhouse usx is.

It is going to be used as a drop yard only. My girlfriend is a dispatcher for USX.

Makes sense. Why would you keep a terminal open if you don't do a ton of business in said area. For example. Say you have a huge contract with a company, and said company closes or moves. Why would you continue to do business in that area if you just lost say 75% of your commerce??

    aiwiron Thanks this.

idk, charlotte is the largest city in the state and is located in between DC and Atlanta. They also have 2 dedicated accounts near there for WalMart and that was where major work on the trucks as well as dropping off trucks and re-training was taking place. It seems quite sudden with no warning and all.

The only way to close a business location is with zero notice. Any other option invites disaster. I have been through it from the management perspective a number of times and early notification is stupid and gets ugly for the company, employees and customers. I know it sucks but that is the way it is.

Your talking about the old Medway, Ohio terminal and that place was a dump. The new one in Springfield is technically smaller . Springfield has plenty driver conveniences. Full laundry room, TV rooms, kitchen area, showers with heated floors. Plenty of conveniences.
