Union sure does sound like the way to go.. Now how many years do you think it would take me to be making decent money and have a regular shift?

Tough as in be ready to take it when it is offered and don't wait to think it over. I had no luck in finding a job like that and looked for a couple of years. Nearest I could get was home once during the week and every weekend. Moved south and took a few years but now I'm home every night and off weekends. It can happen just be ready when it does.

BTW: 2 years after quitting JBHunt they called me out of the blue and asked if I wanted a dedicated job in northern Vermont near where I lived. Home every day and off weekends mostly. About $850 to start. It was hauling grain. Schneider National also had an opening for a grain job but in a different location. Of course all of this was after I left the state and I would never drive for JB again but don't overlook the larger carriers with dedicated accounts.

depends on how big the barn is, and how many guys are getting hired, and retirements. it could be a while before you get steady year round work if you are low on seniority, so that is something to consider. however, i think that goes for non union too, and at a non barn they don't have to call you back based on seniority.....

Lists location as Northwestern corner or Southeastern corner of VT.......

Sounds too good to be true........?

not necessarily. The job in the NW corner was also hauling grain in St. Albans but might be something different. Seems to me you had to travel to Canada and pick it up also so a passport would be needed. I would check it out if I was you but you did say southern vermont.

They are advertising it for Brattleboro as well....It just says dedicated local runs for major retailers.

I wonder if you actually make it home every night.

I would normally never think of running for such a company, but this has me thinking, 52-60k in your first year they claim...... There's got to be a catch.....

Idk..i would b careful. As I said I would not frive for them again and laughed at the guy on the phone but several drivers that work the dsc division are very.happy there. Seems to me that being that far south you are going to end up in nyc/nj sooner or later. $75k is not enough for me to do that but to each his own. Call and ask specific questions on it. Nothing ventured nothing gained. Post what they tell you. WARNING: if ylu decide to do it drive your personnal vehicle to orientation or have someone willing to come get you.

Yeah, thanks, I might look into it just out of curiosity

I have never had to get off the interstate in NYC in a big truck but I have earned some gray hairs all over Jersey over my very short OTR career. Company must have had good insurance kicking a rookie out the door every week with a 53' and a dozen or two stops worth of furniture. Skinned my teeth in the Northeast...Baltimore, broke down in metro DC, VA, saw Jersey every week, and thank goodness- VT, NH, and ME to regain my sanity.
That furniture gig is crazy, once I ran up the entire state of Maine to right before the Canadian border just to drop off 1 box that I carried in there in my arms.

Once I was like 1st in line at a Jersey turnpike tollbooth in gridlocked traffic when they shut down the line I was in, and the ones on both sides of it- it was finally someone with Vermont plates, who got out of their vehicle and spotted me so I could back up.
