Don't take diabetes lightly. It takes work with the diet and meds. You've seen what happened to southernpride. You let the sugar go too far there is no turning back. You were almost comatose.

Insulin is like a key unlocking a door so your muscles can absorb glucose for energy. When you are diabetic your muscles can't absorb the sugar like normal with the lack of insulin thanks to our pancreases. All that excess sugar in your body then turns to a toxin. Your kidneys go into overtime trying to get rid of it. That's why if a heart attack doesn't get a diabetic, kidney failure will. Take care of it!

Read the labels. Try to take your meals and meds around the same time. It can be done. Congratulations on a job well done!!
Question for everyone. How do these guys I see occasionally at truck stops, when they get out of the truck and it leans wayyyyyyy over and they waddle into get thier dinner, get thier med card. It blows my mind.

hay rat, I been battling Diabetes since 1990 been on Insulin, off insulin than went to Lantus which worked but with the DOT crap unless you get a waiver it totally sucks, I now walk 3 miles on a treadmill AC1 is now 6.9 It is tough to battle this but you are right it is based on Diet, stress, all kinds of stuff, Eye problems i also had for awhile every time sugar level goes over 120 it hits your hole body and years and years of it will take a toll, My dad died at 72 and he worked 15 hours a day for over 37 years with the Railroad, Hang in there wish you the best and beat this demon down good luck, God bless

Dreaman you are right but soon its all going to change they are talking about any one who is even type 2 will never drive again, My brother worked for DOT a long time it is coming, To many accidents to many drivers out there that don't even know they are Diabetics yet, It is a serious problem and they know it more now than ever, It is a shame you cant even go on Insulin because if you do with out a waiver your done, In Michigan the waivers take over 6 months and in Ohio were I live take longer, I am a Vietnam vet so iI am thinking its that or inherited who knows, It is a tough battle everyday, eat right eat less walk more lose weight you will never have to worry about Diabetes, Good luck guys

Ive been type 2 for about 4 years now, my A1C was 9.0 have been on a diet and taking Janumet, my AIC is between 5.5 to 6.0 thru the years, now i'm going to try a lesser medication and will still have to lose some weight. Hopefully will get off the meds totally. One of my former Safety Director's husband died from it, saw him go down hill untill his death. Not a good deal....

My a1c is 7.0. How is this going to affect my getting a medical card?

7.0 is borderline good and considered under control. There is no one that will deny you on that. It won't even be brought up unless you are a diagnosed diabetic. You might get a one year card verses a two year card so they can keep closer tabs on you.

When the doctor asks you about you marking down type 2 diabetic on the form... "yes doc I have it under control with diet and Metformin. My last A1C was 7.0". That should be the end of the story and he approves that portion.
