    Casc1,

Different strokes for different folks, if he's happy doing it and it works for him than I say good for him. He may have had more revenue and income if he didn't have ups and downs. He didn't elaborate much on exactly what they were or how they impacted his business for the year. Keep in mind this is also his first year numbers. Most businesses in their first year start out slow.

Hey...not slamming him, just making a point.....as long as guys are willing to bend over the companies will take advantage. I guess it is a perspective thing.

I also find the numbers quite low but I am a company driver. I have never been a O/O. I agree that if it works for him, great. I grossed 87K+ and netted in the 60's and I was home every night and worked Monday thru Friday.

Oh I didn't take it as slamming him, I was just offering a different opinion. I think too many times people get focused on numbers too quickly especially in the early years of a business. He is operating a business, but we all know the transportation industry isn't exactly known for it's high profit margins. It's a slow growth process.

I agree with Stewey,I think He did pretty good. What most people don't get is that he's also paying off a very big investment along the way.He will actually end up with something that has a very high value in 2 or 3 more yrs.I was lucky and cleared 60k my first yr here and that was above my goal.My main goal is to own this truck, then I have many options and all of them equal alot more money in my bank acct.

ACT had over 35 guys pay off their trucks last yr.Thats a great number considering a 300 trk fleet that is 35% lease drivers.I talked to a guy last week that had just paid his truck off and went and sold it for 45k and then released another truck to do it all over again. He considered it a 11k bonus per year that he just put in his bank acct. Many guy's move on to another company with higher rates and make 100k per yr with a paid off trk.So theres lots of options to look at and it is a slow process. Most people are afraid of risk and thats fine, but don't knock a guy that takes it and is trying to win the game.

I guess my point is that as a company driver you will probably be in the 50-80k range....without the headaches.....if I step up to my own business with more to risk I would certainly be looking for some sort of payoff, lets face it when the bank issues a loan, they assume some risk and some cost.....therefore you are charged interest to cover that cost and after all expenses are covered there is always a profit left over.
With most of these "Fleece" deals out there the companies are covering all of their costs but not leaving a decent amount of gross profit to pay yourself accordingly let alone have a net profit to the truck.

Im still learning the lease . In all fairness to the lease i drove 138,000mi and got paid on 104,000 now with short miles i figure i over drove my routes by 17,000 thats on me and not taking the best route . 17000 at 7mpg = 2428 gal of diesel at 3.80g = $9226.00 i spent out of pocket for not having a truck friendly GPS i guess.

I also spent alot of money that i didnt need to spend because i want the truck in good shape on the backend of the lease . Brakes,3axle alignment, steer tires, drive tires, shocks, brake drums , and PM oil changes. Really the only Maint issue ive had with this truck was a heater exchange valve leaking 450.00.

Now you figure that in with my net take home Im more in the 55k range.

Theres risk with ever business adventure nobodies going to hold your hand here . Its your business to run your business the way you see fit . ACT allows you the opportunity to do just that. I will say i have put more money in my saving then i did has a company driver .

So I figure my take home in the range of 55K I dont know any company drivers taking home 55k. That might be there gross but not there take home.

I had a load in Missouri that went to Tn .I delivered that load Thursday. I picked up a load of paper stock in Tn and delivered that load to Ohio. On friday.

Got a choice of loads I decided to pick up a load in Ohio that picked up Saturday for Oklahoma so that gave me a chance to swing by the house for a day. That load will deliver on Monday that will give me 3300 for the week . Ill turn in 2500 for payroll hold back 800mi to start my next week ill probably do a reset somewhere havent decided yet . Thats why i hold a load back im gonna loss a day doing the reset but i will have 800mi in the bank . That will help me recover from the reset. Bills get paid and i get paid

I had the time to do a reset but i would of had to sit at the consignee. I didnt want to do that cause I live up the road so i drove on after empty call. That was enough to kill my window for a reset. Wasnt enough time to do a reset and make the shipper on Saturday night by time i got home. Thats what i hate about elogs ,but thats the way it goes.

I don't really understand why you hold trips back. I would rather have my money as soon as possible and it sitting in my bank instead of ACT having the money. I keep enough in my bank account to survive a few weeks without a check if I have to.

Im on elogs and got child support to pay. I need a check every week . If I gotta hold a trip back to make that happen thats what I do. Since being at ACT I got my support in the black first time in years. Ill hold trips back and cash in on my hometime . Or ill us them to extend my time off . I been here a year only in the hole maybe 3 time for a total of ($75,$20,$150)mostly from time off so thats on me not ACT.

When I first started here I was chasing miles for payroll deadline . Not anymore I relax take it easy . Monday morning Ill have 948 to start my week. Seems to work for me so i roll with it.

You would be surprised the things you gotta do when your on Elogs . You control when you start the clock ,But remember when you do it controls you. So many times I have ran past the house and blew the horn because the timing just wasnt right . Because Big Daddy is sittin in the passenger seat watching you. They're nothing more than devices for companies to use to micro manage you so they can be more effecient and profitable. Changing my handle to R2D2 they make you feel like a robot. Lol.

Ill hollar tomorrow . be safe everybody View attachment 43104
