LUMPERS - How much do you have to pay these guys?

I would actually love to hear from someone in the lumping biz some real profit numbers...I know starlink I think it is owns the bay area. They are everywhere!

 

I had a 5 drop load in Michigan... no lumper at the first, had to do it myself, second stop, lumper was $150, third was$35, fourth was $120, fifth was $30... all about equal product.

Seems no rhyme nor reason in some cases... I just TCheck them and move on.

 

What just kills me are the companies that will pay two to three times as much for a lumper to offload you, than they will pay the driver to get the same results. I can tell you without hesitation, that if the company had been willing to pay me as much to unload, as they pay the lumpers, I would have done almost all of my own loading/unloading.

 

and some of these places now wont even let you unload, you HAVE to use the lumper service...

 

I think the lumpers don't pay their guys worker comp. The whole system is set up like some kind of money laundering scheme--

Lumper says give me $500
Driver tells DM, I need $500
XYZ Trucking gives driver $500
Driver pays Lumper $500
Lumper pays his guys cash money, no 1099, no W2 etc
XYZ Trucking goes back to shipper and says give me $1000
Driver is responsible to turn in receipt otherwise has to eat $500 bucks off his next paycheck

Its about a 75/25 mix of drop and hook and live unload. Beer is almost alwasy a live unload with a few exceptions. Yes we deal with lumpers at food whse, we take in paper products like napkins,plates,etc.etc. There is a macro in the Q-comm for lumpers. Never had a issue hiring one, company gives you a code for a comcheck. This is for Millis.

 

We do intermodal work in St. Louis and we have some loads going into Schnucks (food warehouse) and had to pay $350 basically just for breaking down some pallets of baby food. That is such a scewed up idea, to charge someone else to unload THEIR product, plus charging a small fortune. Oh well.

 

I have paid $50 to over $300. Most charge a rate per carton, whatever number is on the bills. Every Walmart I went to was a flat fee of $50.

One time, the lumpers told me $80. And in a hush voice, he said, "We can do it for $40 cash.." For sure they would put in a charge of $80 to the company...

ell I say #### those G## Da## rude ##### lumpers as they tell you "What you gonna do it yourself" and you never know when or where you are going to have to pay. They always s eem want cash...then them #### sticks unload two pallets and go to lunch leaving you to sit there as your time its running out and nobody gives a care. They want you there at a certain time so you can sit and w
ait and be late for your next pick or drop. Why is there no team work in this industry? Its every man for them selves
And the trucker takes the brunt of out all. And all the responsibility . Then you got that #### Dot trying every thing

They can do to get some of your money too. . Any way didn't meafn to gripe too much but I'm not a fan the lumpers and their fees. And their attitudes.
