Moose - I'm hearing that something is being set up out of Pasco, but I don't know how close or far out it is or any other details. I only know this as I was asking about the Fred Meyer run and found out you need to be on a year before they even look at you for that (and I've only been around a few short months). Anyway, this was as of about 3 weeks ago...could be more info out there by now.

Frost - my best to you and yours!!!

Yes, I also was told the NW terminal was going to be in Pasco. The person formerly in charge of the Coors dedicated fleet is supposed to be the terminal manager. Also heard KC from the Fontana terminal is going t be in charge at rochelle

How are things going for you Aaron - you've upgraded and are now out on your own - correct? Anyone going to be in WVC tomorrow (Monday). Just coming off of home time (stayed 6 weeks out then home time) so hope to not spend too much time there - will maybe take in a safety class for this quarter.

From what was mentioned in orientation, the new fleet will be picking up potatoes in the field and delivering them for fast food (french fries I'm guessing). They didn't say anything about where the receivers will be, but the fleet isn't going to be very large from what they said either.

I've been considering leasing ever since I decided to train at CRS, but it looks like my decision can be accelerated 3 months earlier than I expected. My trainer has been impressed by my driving and general knowledge of trucking and what it takes to run a business (not bragging just relaying what he indicated...I don't think I'm all that, really). He spoke to O/O and someone will be calling me tomorrow (Monday) and I may have the opportunity to lease upon upgrade. I see this as a mixed blessing. The opportunity for a larger paycheck sooner is appealing. But, if I decide to lease, I had planned on a few days home time about 3 weeks after upgrade. I'm not sure the cash flow will handle that, especially since I have some items I'd really like to buy and one I really must buy (i.e. a new phone, a GPS, a CB, etc.).

If I'm going to lease (and all my data so far adds up to me leasing) I really want to start sooner rather than later. I believe I understand the ins and outs and my read on CRS is a good one though in principle I'll likely start with a 12-18 month lease. I know its a hornet's nest to ask about leasing info, so please everyone just chill out...I'm not asking for anyone else but myself (I know leasing doesn't make sense for everyone).

I think I know the general info when it comes to leasing. I understand that it can be up and down and that my paycheck is very much in my hands (I like that). For the term of my lease I don't mind running like a mad man if necessary and my family understands and is on board for that as well. What I'd like is just any advice given my particular situation, especially since I would have liked a little more buffer zone money before leasing. I know there is some increased risk, but there is also potential increased reward. Plus, I might get lucky and go directly into a new qualcomm. :) Oh, by the way I'm considering a Cascadia. Thoughts on that are welcome also. Thanks for supporting me up to now. I really like this community.

Suggestion... I would drive company for a while just so you know the ropes and all the loops in those ropes BEFORE you jump in the deep end... Just saying...

I know that makes sense in general and I'd likely give the same advice. But, I've always been a quick study, even on the fly, and from what I can tell running company is not the same animal as leasing. As far as working the system, is there anything in particular that I can pick up running company that I'd need?

I understand about communication and being responsible for my own situation. I can keep on top of people if necessary. I'm not shy about that when it comes to business. My return in moving more quickly is bypassing .28 cent training pay for three months, which the differential could be significant. Obviously the longer I wait the less differential and so the less benefit. If I falter a bit in the beginning and only make a few hundred dollars on average, comparing that with .28 cpm there really is nothing lost. If I do better great.

Doulos, I would wait. It's not just on you. The dispatcher you get is going to make a difference (and how much they rely on their planners). If you sit for a while as a company driver, you don't make money. I you sit around as a l/o, you actually go in the hole! It can be VERY aggravating even if you've been out for a while. If you can stand a few months with no money at all, you're ready. Otherwise, run company, make sure you can do everything expected of you and be a productive driver. Good luck either way but be careful man. They make it look a lot rosier than it actually is.

Doulos do not lease on upgrade. I was a quick study and had my part in the bag by the time I upgraded but it still took a month of bad miles before my dm and I clicked. How good would you feel about leasing after an 8000 mile month? That's about what I did the first month.

Before you assume I'm a slow learning slouch, consider that my second was over 10000, and my 3rd month was 12400 miles. Your dm simply will NOT keep you moving until he/she trusts you. By all means if you feel the urge to lease get on the fast track program. Keep track of everything for 45 days and evaluate. If it looks good than make your decision, if not be glad there were people to put the brakes on for you.
