Central Refrigerated Truck Stop II

Hey Cali folks: I'm delivering in Anaheim on Tuesday. Does anyone know somewhere closer than Ontario to get a 10? I'm guessing I'm out of luck there but I figure its worth asking.

 

If you don't mind parking on the street....You can have a 10hr at Walnut, exit is Grand ave of the 60 west towards LA. We did our breaks there all the time, thats about the closest I can think of.


exit Grand ave, turn right at the stop light go down the hill a little and hang a left it will be the first left and then take the left up the side street at the stop sign, you will see a heap of Lessor's trucks parked there.

Depending upon what your needs are during this 10 and where you are delivering in Anaheim, I used to go over to the old Boeing Plant on Miller, North of La Palma. Huge empty employee parking lots that werent chained off the last time I was there.

 

My ability to endure low income is greater now than it will be in the future. If I can average 450 a week the first few months I'll be ok. Negative weeks will be alright as long as the average is there. The point about the DM is an important one that I'll not only have to consider but look into mitigating if possible if I decide to move ahead.

 

I'll run the numbers using those miles and see how it turns out. I'm not sure that's a deal breaker. But, I will say that if I'm only getting 2000 miles a week, it won't take 2 weeks before someone is hearing about it. Leasing is a two way street. If they are willing to lease to me early then they had best be prepared to put a little extra trust in me early as well and I'll make my expectation well known before I lease. And a conversation with my DM (whoever it will be) will be in order before I sign anything. Nothing is certain yet so all the power is in my court and I'll use it.

 

I walked out of CRSWVC day one sure I was gonna run hard and make money. I talked to my DM and we had an understanding; I was sure of it. Then I was sure glad I was in a company truck when my second and third weeks combined made one good week. Then the phone calls started. It took two weeks to even get anyone's attention.

I had leverage. I was on fast track, and I made sure every person I complained to knew it. Whats your leverage when you've already signed a lease? They got what they want, now they just have to give you enough to not walk away, which is a whole lot less than it takes to convince someone to sign.

No one here has told you flat out not to lease (all three of us leased), but we all remember those early days after upgrade. The idea of doing it with a lease payment is unbearable. If you want to lease right out of the gate, on your own head be it. You came here asking for advice and we have all given you advice based off our experience, ignore at your peril.

 

And what if you blow a tire? Blow a turbo? YOU are on the hook for those costs! You want a lease that isn't a new truck, will what breaks down be covered under warrantee? How much $$ cushion do you have? Do you have the $1000 for just the static costs if you are down for a week? It's not just the knowledge of how the company runs, but building a foundation to start your own business. Not having the proper foundation is how SO MANY fail!!

 

Just like I do with all advice, I give it consideration. No one makes my decisions for me, so the consequences are mine no matter which side I choose. (Remember, you're giving the safe advice...I would too. But there is a loss to be had in not risking for reward as well.) Just because I'm being a little adversarial with the advice doesn't mean that I've made a decision. It means that I'm looking into the advice being given so that I can properly assign its weight in making my decision. Most likely if I don't question advice its because I've already dismissed it.

So far I haven't seen a deal breaker (that doesn't mean I'll lease just that I won't not lease yet) and the concerns are pretty much the same as I already had. Though giving your last bit of experience is perhaps the strongest case against it.

If I say something I mean it, and if someone else says something I expect them to mean it. If I speak to my DM and he gives certain assurances then I expect him to hold to it and if he doesn't then O/O would be next and if they give no satisfaction I'll make it clear that if they can't hold to their word I feel no compunction to hold to mine and that I'd like to give up the lease then complete my year and look elsewhere. This is true if I lease now or later. So far my experience hasn't lead me to believe CRS to be so dishonest, but your statements mean I have to re-evaluate that a bit.
