Having same issues since this latest windows update.

Been fighting it all week. RM tech support says to send my device in on an RMA. I just got it back from an rma for a different issue.

    working with nosajatpetro off line.

@MNDriver - does the 510 show connected on the face of the TND when connected to the computer?

    some things to try.

Power settings - when on AC set to high.
    1' USB cable
    AC powered USB hub.

    Thanks,
    Mark

I had a TND510 software update that was installed just prior to all of this starting. Yesterday, I attempted to get the TND hooked back up to the computer, now I am struggling to get my operating system back again.

A USB powered hub plugs into AC, then the TND plugs into the Powered Hub with a USB cable going from the powered hub to the computer USB port.

Other devices may not have the current draw a TND has. The newer computers tend to give lower power to the USB ports for energy savings. Sometimes you have to change the power settings to high. Note - the power settings are different for when you are on battery versus AC.

Sometimes I found the 1' USB cable works. It has to do with the specs of a 1' cable versus a 3' cable.

Rand makes the TND to USB specs. But, with so many makes/models of computers it would physically impossible to test with each one.

The TND should show on the face the word Connected. If it does not it could be the USB port on the TND. Power comes in on pins 1 and 5 with the USB handshaking on pins 2, 3, 4.

Software updates on the Dock will not affect the way the TND connects to the computer.

    Other tricks..

with the TND connected and on, power cycle (reboot) the computer.

with the computer on and the TND connected, power cycle the TND.

If you OS is having issues, you can do a restore back to a earlier time when you knew it was working correctly.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Sounds like he's having issues with the computer. For me, irregardless of the drive device or peripheral, plug the usb cable into the external device first then the usb on the computer. Also my computer which is dang near brand new, has usb ports designated for external power supply to a device over and beyond I guess what would be considered normal. Don't know if this would make a difference or not.

    Asus 75GV series.

At this point no issues regarding usb connections. But good point on the power scheme Mark. Had that issue but not with any of TND devices I own.

One other thing I noticed with one of my testers.. He had a "i" core processor and no matter what it would not connect. It took a USB powered Hub for it to finally connect. This was on a C model.

I have not seen too many issues with the 510/710 connecting to the newer computers. But, it can happen.

    Thanks,
    Mark

    Mark: Question

I am trying to merge the address book from my 720 with my wife's 700. Can this b done? if so, how do I go about doing it. I want to keep all the addresses in one file on her unit.

    Thanks

I would likely agree with that other than...

Up until this week, I would routinely connect my TND510 to this computer with zero issues. It was not until I got it back from an RMA for a faulty screen where they also did a software update, that I started to have issues with it.

I am running a Dell Precision M4400 laptop too. Intel Duo Cor P8600 2.4 Ghz process, Win 7 Pro 64 Bit with 4.0 GB ram. I also have a Quadro 1700 video card. It's a system designed and running AutoCAD Civil3D. About 10X the computer person needs for running a truck.
