Hi folks. Important question I need a str8 answer to. plead guilty to a felony in 2002. will this impede me from attaining a cdl license or the big question what company is going to hire me ect? The charge was nonviolent, nondrug related. How long will this stay on my record and who has the right to access such information other than law enforecement. also had to leave the employment world to care for a family member three years. Have been researching the industry for awhile now and need good advise to enter into the trucking industry as a driver.

BE honest and be open with companies that you are applying too. Keep trying, don't give up! -
I've got a misdemeanor on my record that's been there since I was 18 years old - some of these companies do background checks and they find it! It hasn't held me back from any job I wanted, but a felony would probably be a little more damaging. I think the only way to get it off your record is to go to court and give a judge a sob story - but I haven't heard anyone actually accomplishing that anytime recently.
The place I'm working for now did a background check on me that took THREE weeks. Crazy.
Like everyone else said - whether it impedes you from getting a job probably has a lot to do with what kind of charge you were convicted of... -

Do you recall that one? -
No, sorry, don't know that one.
And, no, we're scrutinized even harder than you guys are going INTO the USA. It's a huge chore to cross the border all the time. The border people are rude, arrogant and unnecessarily cranky. I was born here and I have a clean record - same with Mike - why hassle us???? Sheesh!!!! -
Thanks for the replies. The charge was a misdemeanor risk of injury. Always check for the age of individual who you meet on line or even in person. I learned the hard way and paid dearly for it. The charge upon pleading was bumbed up to the lowest felony in order to satisfy the courts request to registar as a sex offender and as of a few months ago discovered such action was not legal under the statue and the case is closed. The problem being what is going to revealed on a background check? Im more than happy to discuss the partiqulars of the case. As matter a fact I am the poster boy for what can go wrong in regards to the registry list as well as a case proven not alware of the victim age and the bind the courts find themself's in when such a case is presented to them. The court agreed the sentence did not meet the partiquar offence.Be that as it may companies are going to be what? Some companies I have discovered ask that the conviction be not in the past five years some 7 ect what is the norm? Driving record how far back do they go? Have two dui over 10 years ago as far as I know clean motor vichicle record. Who do these companies use to process there applicants and the required federal law they have to follow. I would like to continue my quest to apptain a CDL knowing full well the first two years are hell on wheels. As well as the pay but the end justify the means. This is lasts chance is my working life in order to secure the proper employment and enjoy a living wage and future due to my age 49. I will keep researching companies for the best alternatives available to me and would like to here from you the avenues open to me regarding my present status. I am as honest as they come to a fault my aquies heal sort of speak lol! Thanks again for your feedback and advice Dale
