Hey twalk, if you wouldn't mind, I'd really like a detailed breakdown on there course (amount classroom instruction, actual drive-time per student, night driving....if any.....job placement assistance...as much info as you can provide would be great).

I found a means of paying for my schooling, so I'm on a different path now as far as getting back to trucking (I have my CDL-A). So glad I can opt out of the "driver mill schools" choice I had planned on.

It's a toss-up for me between this school and Greenville Tech. Your input might help me to decide.

Be glad to help...The first week you will be in class to study for your permit but I guess you won't need that but you still learn a lot. The second week your learning your pretrip inspection pretty much and you will be in the truck in the yard learning to shift driving around in the yard then straight line backing serpentine around the cones. You might get on the road the second week but most likely the third week. You have to have so much driving time in I remember 3 hours night driving and 30 hours observing I believe and about 15-18 hours on the road something like that. Like you I had my CDL also. Then you will be in the yard and road off and on the next 3 weeks. Learning log books, map reading watching a good many films. It's a nice facility really three bathrooms, nice kitchen, coffee potato chips, and cakes, all twenty five / fifty cents. One room is full of recruiting advertisement stuff that is all that is in that room. They have recruiters come in. Wolding, Warner, Rohel, Watkins and a few others. The instructors Jim was in the Marines and is going to retire in June and Dave was in the Navy for 20 years. Both were great instructors if you ask me. You will pull a tanker and a flatbed. We had some issues with the tractors being broke down a couple times but they have that fixed now and they were going to buy two more tractors so that would make them five if they keep the all in use. It was kind of a pain with the tractors breaking down but we got through it. I had to pay mine out of my pocket but it was worth it to me. Remember this for your pre trip inspection PROPERLY MOUNTED AND SECURE NOT CRACKED BROKEN OR MISSING..It's plastered all over the place...LMAO Safety, Safety, Safety.

    Great info twalk......really, thank you.

I like the fact that different trailers are used in the training....I am leaning toward pulling tankers someday. Just curious....empty or not?

Glad there's a variety of companies who visit the school. Of the 4 you mentioned, I'd be interested in 2 of them. To be honest, my biggest interest in YTC is the fact that Crete Carriers hires student from this school.

Just a few more questions.....you said you had your CDL while there...as will I.

1 - Did that shorten your time in this school? In the fact that there would obviously be no need to take the CDL exam...or did this open up more time for you to practice manuevers and/or shifting while the rest of the students were tested?

2 - Was your tuition lessened due to having a CDL already? Seems the school would waive the licencing fee.

I could have gotten away with a refresher by going with one company, but my time out of the seat has been so long that I don't trust what I might still remember. I'll gladly do the full course. Trucking industry has change greatly from my research, so all the better reason to go this route. And no contract to stay with a company, like I originally opted to do......a plus in itself!

No , the tanker was empty, and no load on the flatbed...I was a little cheaper but If I would have had the money I would have took the whole course. It just looks better on your certificate. I'm not sure how long you will have to stay they let me stay a few extra days because the tractors were broke down...If you are in the service you have money for school from the government cant remember what they call that im sure you do...Yeah that is why I took the course and paid it for it myself. If you go through a lot of the trucking companies they want you to sign a 2 year contract...good luck to you...and thank you for your service to our country!
