He rebuild should used the updated parts , fixing the issues that engine first had. Should serve you well!

I personally wouldn't buy an MBE engine. I would look at a different truck with a Detroit or Cat.

A Western Star with a MBE is like ordering a prime rib with a side of McD's fries.SHC and Cluck Cluck Thank this. -
I have 850k miles on my MBE.
Overall, reliable and excellent on fuel, which is where it is at these days IMHO.
Easy to work on, parts are very reasonable, especially compared to my old Cat of years gone by, and any F/liner or Detroit shop can work on them no problem.
A smaller engine that is lacking in power compared to 14l Detroits etc, but beats them all on MPG.
Shoot me a PM if you need any specifics, like the 15 minute job of blocking off the EGR etc .
I wouldn't hesitate myself, but you will hear lots to the contrary, mostly by folks who have never owned one...

thanks all for the comments.
the motor is completely rebuilt with liners, rods.turbo, injectors, egr, and all parts are of the updated variety.I was wrong on the mileage ,it is 369k.The salesman at F?L says i dont want it ,but the local company that had the truck liked it and said good mileage as well.I am hoping to package it with a 53' flat.i can live with slower pulling on hills and make up for it on mileage.
Any more comments are welcome.thanks, joe -
You can bump the power with a tuner if you feel the need. I, as well as a few others on here, are running them with success. Still good MPG, but better pulling power when heavy etc. I am plated at 117k lbs, and run out West pretty often.
If it has the new liners and HG's, it wont have any issues, they were recalled in '07 IIRC to fix possible issues with the center cylinder heads leaking (IIRC). Turbo's aren't cheap on them, so thats a good thing to have replaced.
If the price is right, and everything else on the truck looks good, then buy it and make money with it.

There's several trucks out there for cheaper. I'd look around and figure out what parts and places are closer to you when it's repair time.

$49k for an 06 seems a bit high, but if it has 0 miles on the rebuild and comes with a 2yr warranty on the rebuild, the price is pretty good. the rebuild alone was probably close to $20k...... but remember, you will not be able to go into California with it soon (I saw you were in ID) so that might be a factor, unless you never go there to begine with.
Truck looks nice, and I would not be afraid of the motor with the warranty and as long as it has paperwork. Another big plus is it seems you were able to contact the company that owned it before??? Any chance they told you WHY they got rid of it?The Challenger Thanks this. -
From what i understood ,they upgraded to cascadias this year.It was having motor problems is why they rebuilt it.truck has 0 miles on it since rebuild with all upgraded parts.Hoping i can get some decent $ on my trade in.I'm ready!
SHC Thanks this.
