yeah def. point the flashlight on the ground...where the tandems need to be...we used to drive a 323" wheelbase pete (pics on my page)...and we did hospital deliveries....(course those were in the daytime) and ran back east a lot...some real tight places that we ok back in the day with cabovers and short trailers....

and when you arent in a tight spot...hubby used to tell me..if youve got room..USE it....some of these drivers just
barely pull up...and it does them no good.....heck set that thing up right... that is A MAJOR part of your backing...proper set up....

We have a door at my place that the jockey puts the truck in for the guys. If he's not there some times the drivers poke holes in oil pans and stuff. It's real tight.

Yea no kidding on the space thing. And the flashlight trick does wonders. I even use the spotlight on my tractor in some situations its kinda hard to see out of the cab sometimes in the mirrors kick the spotlight on point it where i need to go and start backing. Might look weird using a lot more space than necessary but like your hubby says if you got the space use it. Also guess something some drivers might not agree with is it dont matter how long it takes, how many pull ups you have to make, etc. Etc as long as you get it in there and dont hit anything you did a good job!

Tru tru. I know how to back up and am ok. No real issues, but I just wanna know other people's techniques, because I want to be better. Ya know my problem is no confidence and then I shock myself. For example backed into a dock that was a blind side next to a telephone pole, it had no room to pull up. I did good. This was in north jersey. I see your from marlton, nj. I'm from Clementon, nj

When in ANY doubt - G.O.A.L.
    Get out and look.

Some of those tight docks will take several tries until you get just the right setup.
And never be too afraid or intimidated to go around and try again.
It's not the drivers that are careful enough to get it right that get fired for a preventable - it's the drivers that are too stupid to call it quits and try again.

    I had one tonight.
I had to block the entire street while backing in to the dock, so cars were waiting on me.
I didn't line it up just right the first time so I had to pull up and get a better angle, while more cars were stacking up.
I didn't try to hurry it, and in fact took more time with the second try.

Once I did get it in I was actually complimented for getting it in so quickly and so straight.

Never be in a hurry or let yourself get distracted while backing.

Sure thing, ill keep ya in my phonebook. Lmao. I'm not bad at backing up. I get out and look, I take my time, I had a few hard back up challenges..my issue is lack of confidence. But everytime I do a hard dock, I surprise
myself and am happy I did it. I take pictures of each dock challenge as a way to prove to myself that I am capable.
