Not No To Jb Hunt, Hell No!!!

I dont give a rats butt what he thinks about the company, the only time he spews his crap is when drivers are wantingto work for JB. I asked him to find another company to run down. I honestly doubt he ever worked for ANY major trucking company in his life. He is probably one of the crazy liberalists that believe a company of this magnitude should not be wealthy. His opinion is his own. I cant see what he says cause My opinion is he is an idiot so I dont deal with him.

 

Oh my goodness a company puts the customer first lol that is how you stay in business and if you want to get the high paying runs as a driver you had better learn to put the customer first as well since they are the ones paying the bills as for the office personel coming first I know several that are former drivers and most of them make less working in the office

Oh Geesh one slip of a political reference and I get this. That was a statement and most likely the truth. But needless to say I said what I said and I meant it.

 

This is the type of driver that gets on the cb and says some stupid stuff to get a rise out of sombody just to back away and listen to the aftermath.

I haven't been on here in quite a while. As it turns out I've been too busy running freight 70 hours a week so jawing with the CB jockeys turned internet trolls has fallen down my list of priorities.

I am not coming back on here to engage anyone in any arguments. I am not going to attack anyone personally for any specific comments they made or claims they've posted.

But I do realize that we have new drivers that peruse these boards as well as drivers considering a change and want to know the real story about certain carriers and the pros and cons. I have spent the last four and a half years with JB and have worked on two different DCS accts as well as in intermodal so I believe I have sufficient background to share with those wanting to know about the JB experience.

First off I will tell you that JB Hunt is not the perfect fit for everyone just as trucking is not the perfect career choice for everyone. Some folks just aren't suited for trucking. And some people just aren't suited for JB Hunt and their standards and expectations.

JB Hunt expects their professional drivers to be professionals. This expectation should scare off 80% of perspective drivers.

There are drivers who think they are professionals but many are mistaken about their own self assessment. Do you know the Smith System? Do you live the Smith System? Do you really understand what it means to drive defensively? Are you disciplined and committed to safety? Every day? Do the actions other drivers push your buttons? Do you lose your temper or become vindictive like so many rig operators on the road? Or do you maintain proper following distance regardless of time pressures or traffic conditions?

JB Hunt has very high standards today. If you get hired on today you are not working for 1972 JBHT or 1988 JB. I have heard the stories of the old timers that drove the cabovers and what they claim their experience was. I did not drive for them back then so I cannot judge the accuracy of things that occurred before I worked here.

Today JB Hunt has very highly maintained equipment. Most of JBs terminals have check in lanes. When you arrive a JB employee will do a maintenance check on your truck every time you enter the terminal. This of course is in addition to the pre-trip AND post trip inspection that they require you, the driver do each day that you are on duty.

They have very competitive wages. I know a few local drivers at my home terminal that gross over 70k a year and are home every night. No it is not the norm but it is possible. 60s and high 50s are more common but even 50k a year is not that bad for a home every day driving job and this is at the low end of the pay spectrum.

And benefits, how bout a 401k plan with a 50% company match? Several health care insurance options that JB contributes to and brings employee cost down. Employee discounts with many partner vendors. I personally save $20 every month on my Verizon wireless bill with my JBHT discount. For Christmas I bought an AR Drone flying toy for my grandson through Verizon and my cost was reduced by $80 just on that one purchase. Cars, computers, appliances, college classes, homeowners and car insurance all can be purchased with a JBHT discount.

Does any of this seem like a company worth working for? You be the judge. But there is a catch......

You want to earn decent money with good benefits while driving well maintained equipment? Well here is the trade off.... You must be safe. You must be professional. You must comply with company policy... regardless of whether you agree with it or not. You should be able to service JB's customers effectively with on time deliveries. You are expected to communicate effectively with your fleet manager. You are expected to complete an EDVIR every day and report mechanical defects to maintenance and/or roadservice. You are expected to comply with CSA and HOS rules and regulations. If you haul hazmat you are required to know how to read a BOL and you are required to call for a hazmat briefing. If you run Canada you are expected to be well versed in border crossing regulations and processing paperwork to the assigned broker.

So.... is there anyone left? Anyone still interested in driving for JB?

Because JB holds their drivers to high standards they frequently have to turn away drivers at orientation cause they fail to meet the required criteria. This infuriates many. And some of these rejected drivers aire their greivances here. And still more are fired from JB after taking dispatch. They disobey company policy. They fail to service the customer. They have foolish accidents or incidents. They repeatedly have negative observations made against them concerning following distance or use of turn signals or other safety devices. They have some tolerance but they keep you on a short leash if you cannot raise your game you are a liability and you will be terminated if you do not meet the criteria of a professional. Sorry, good luck in the future...

Being fired is something that a driver should take heed and take responsibility for what actions they took that might have played a part in their dismissal. Is every termination just and fair? No I believe some instances more lattitude could have been given. But by and large they set out their policies and expectations from day one. Your future is in your own hands. Do your job as a professional, be smart and always, always take a CYA approach and you can have a long profitable career with JB.

If you want to ##### and blame others or think that JBs policies are a crock then don't even apply there are plenty of other companies that might put up with your drama but not JB.

This is my honest assessment. Take it as you will.
