Practical Miles Petition to Congress

    Well it seems like something like Google maps, with the miles figured on it, would be more realistic. With most companies the miles figured are at least 10% less than what they are in reality. I would suppose Google, or Rand McNally all would be near correct.

    It does vary by company what mileage calculation they use. Mine uses fairly realistic calculations. My out of route, even with going home and such thrown in, has averaged between 3 and 4 percent for well over 5 years. I would venture, that if I really tried a whole lot harder, I could get it into the 2% range. Not sure the effort is worth it though. That would mean running down some stretches of road that I would rather not take a truck on.

    The difference being, now these guys are force-routed on a longer route. In the past you could take the shortest route if that's what kept your knickers from knotting.

    Yep. You know going in you're taking a 10% hit. It's something that should have been considered from the start, as you evaluated potential employers. Unless you're a noob, you should have your choice of employers; if you don't? A little time in the mirror is in order.
