Had a first the other day while traveling EB on US-54, just east of Kismet. The warning prompt "Winding Road Ahead" popped up. I thought really, where??? Here's a google maps screenshot of where that happened.
    winding road warning.jpg

That stretch of US-54 is about as flat and level as you can get.

I also still get the same warning of Your Route will take you on a dirt road for about... X miles. If they would at least make it auto-dismiss it wouldn't be so bad. Recently I have to take some dirt roads to get to a quarry or where I dump. Funny thing is, the GPS does not provide the warning for those roads. I know it's just a simple little box and can't be very accurate all the time. I would just like the warnings to auto-dismiss so I don't have to push the close button. Some of these roads are real, real bumpy, making it hard to hit the darn close button.

Just thought I'd add that I've been using the Odometers. I use Odometer 1, setting it to the odometer reading on my truck. Odometer 2 is reset every day, to record the total miles driven. I've noticed that both are fairly accurate, but still off. They average about 5 miles less then the actual miles for every 150 or so miles. Is this something fairly common? I would think that since satellites are being used it would be spot on.

I would think your Truck Odometer might actually be off more than the TND.

    @ Eaton18

Everything affects your truck's odometer- from road surfaces to tire tread depth. Accurate enough for government work though. The gps odometer is based on a calculated distance the device moved and this can change back and forth depending on the fix the device receives. I seem to remember this popping up here in this thread before as a matter of fact. Anyway, between your truck and the device your odometer reading ought to be close to something like 97% accurate. Good enough for government work.

I had this problem with my TND-500 in an 07 freightliner. Tho 07 kw I'm in now the truck odometer and the gps odometer are within 1/2 mile of each other.

Quick and simple. I bought my 500 With lifetime upgrade for free. Now they are not doing map upgrades. When I first questioned this was told I could get the 720 for 200$, but I didn't have the cash at that time. Was then told no problem the offer was good indifinately. Finally got the extra cash, called RM to find out what I needed to do and was told at first that the offer expired. When I told them they need to give me my lifetime update then I was told they never offered free lifetime upgrades for the 500. I'm not stupid. The free upgrades were the only reason I bought the thing from RM in the first place. Now can you tell me how I get my free updates or the trade in deal?

Reset the miles to a higher number.

After doing some research and reading other reviews it seems like there is an ongoing electrical problem with the 710 and 720 models. Multiple users are reporting their units are blacking out permanently and Rand McNally is only replacing the units that are less than 1 yr old. Many are having this problem at 1.5 yrs. Rand is acknowledging the problem but refusing to correct it. I would expect that after pay big $$$$ for a gps that it would last more than 1.5 yrs. What do you say Marc?

If you are comparing the GPS to your truck Odometer, remember the truck was calibrated to a set of new tires. As the tread wears down the truck odometer will vary. GPS goes by Lat/Long.

I will forward the information up to RM.

    Thanks,
    Mark
