It is something to be proud of, there's plenty that havent gotten that far without chaos. -
In over 30 years, I've never kept track. I've never been concerned about the miles I've already travelled, only the one that lies infront of me.
inkeper, Tonythetruckerdude, truckon and 12 others Thank this. -
I will tell you this much the first million was a heck of a lot easier than the fourth has been

There was a local JB driver last year who got a $10,000 check for his two million safe miles although doing local work I think they give em 90,000 or 100,000 credit per year. NewNash, when you get your first million then you can say it's no big deal.
Marksteven Thanks this. -
I had a million safe miles until that #### cop pulled me over!
Don't tell them you never had a ticket because that makes them want to give it to you more!
But I never had any accidents. I have had a few hit me in parking lots.
To those that gone without even a ticket is very hard.Logan76 Thanks this. -
Tonythetruckerdude, JohnBoy, critters and 4 others Thank this.

Driving since about 88 with some time off as a diesel mech and a few other things. Never did keep track of my miles so I have no idea. 1 million nowadays doesn't mean as much as it did 25-30 years ago. Those old guys, when they started out were running maybe 200 hp gaspots, fixed their own flats, changed their own blowouts, ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WITH HANDTOOLS. Those guys really have my respect, they ground out their million, at 20-30 mph average did all their own loading/unloading, didn't have any sleeper at all. What they called highways, they still needed chains to make it through the mud. How many of you highway haulers have never even chained up? Working in the oilfield for most of the last fifteen years I don't rack up the miles. I have trained numerous drivers, some of whom picked it up really quickly(great teacher haha), some not so quick, some who it was a real struggle for. Only one driver I count as a failure, because they cut him loose before I wanted to let him go. The experienced drivers I have worked with fall into 1 of 2 categories mostly laid back guys who knew they didn't know everything, and one or two know it alls. The only guy i know who "claimed" to be a million miler, was the most useless tit I have ever worked with.He knew it all, and no matter how many times he didn't listen to his supervisors instruction and things got hacked up , he was still sure he was right.Thank the Lord I only know 1 of him.In my line of off highway driving its not how many miles as much as which goat trails you have driven in how many different seasons, how many miles uphill in axle deep(or deeper) mud with four sets of triple chains. No doubt any number of miles accident free is an accomplishment, but it isn't the same as that old timer who did well to do 2-300 a day. for him a million was a lifetime accomplishment. nowadays running pin to pin, or dock to dock, not being your own full time mechanic, having luxuries like airshift trannys instead of 2 or 3 stick or even 2 transmissions air conditioning cell phones cb radios we got it obscenely easy. Those old guys when cummins finely came out with the mega power 290 cummins thought they had died an gone to heaven. They didn't need to hang Chrome truck nutz on the hitch they knew they were MEN, and were confident enough of it they felt ZERO need to brag about it.
bullhaulerswife, Mr Ed, Hammer166 and 1 other person Thank this.
