There were alot of drivers in orientation today. I did not get called to take my driving test or 90 degree back but will be up tomorrow. We were given several books, watched some videos on Haz Mat and took some exams along with filling out alot of paperwork. Celadon is going to reimburse up to $100 for drivers that get the Haz Mat endorsement. I might be with a trainer by the end of the week.

I'd be wary of any contract based on miles, as opposed to a specified time frame. Especially with any of the bottom feeder companies, as you're not guaranteed miles with any company. I used to work for Celadon and USA Truck...many similarities. A lot of short mile loads, sitting darn near every weekend. What I liked about Celadon was the state of the art technology, vehicle maintenance and their home time policy. The miles are what made me leave...kinda hard to live off of 1500-1700 miles a week. It's going to be different with any driver/company...but if I had been obligated for 120,000 miles I'd have been stuck there for approx 70 weeks. That's not a fair deal. Any CDL financing should be 1 year, max...no matter how many miles. Anyone would be better off going through one of the other independent mills. The reason, IMO, is that if it doesn't work out with the first company you go with then the mills usually will have another option for you. With a training program like Celadon's, that isn't going to happen...you'll be stuck owing them with no options. I'd steer clear of their cdl school, but I still give them a B+ rating for a bottom feeder company, I just think they're trying to grow too fast and it'll be just a matter of time before they're another lowly USA Truck for the same reasons.

No upfront costs. However, there is a minimum age requirement of 22 years of age.

You'll drive "solo" with your trainer for two weeks. Then you'll drive as a team with your trainer for two weeks. Provided your trainer is comfortable with you as a team driver. Then, with your trainer's approval, you'll get your own truck and run solo or team with someone if you want to do that.

    Truckie83 Thanks this.

Does Celadon have husband and wife team drivers, or are they strictly solo?

I have been thinking of Celadon as well for training as they have a terminal in my hometown. But I read on their website that after training you have to do teams for 240,000 miles. Don't think I like that idea. After Completing The Driver Training School Will I Have To Team?

Yes, new students are required to team for a combined 240,00 miles which is approximately a year. You each will make $0.18 per mile. If you drive 17,000 miles in one month, you and your teammate will receive an extra $.03 per mile on all 17,000 miles. After you've reached the 240,000 miles you can begin driving solo. If you qualify for the refresher program you are allowed to drive solo immediately.
