You will make very good money. Very little wait time on tanker work. Get some good hearing protection because those pumps can be loud and damage hearing. I purchased a good hearing protection at a gun store, like they wear on a shooting range. It's like ear muffs, not the cheap rubber or wax ear plugs.

    Bigdubber Thanks this.

Any recent information on Venezia. I have been speaking to them about the same run - regional hauling Exxon/Mobil lube oils. Based out of New Middletown, OH hauling to points on the east coast. Sounds like a clean gig with customer loads and unloads. Any recent information for this company is appreciated. Thx, GG

Brian, the key to being a safe tanker driver is to manage your momentum. I was told "drive it like there's a glass of champagne on the dash, and don't spill a drop" by a prominent country musician's tour bus driver.

Accelerate gently, and start slowing down way before you reach your turn.
Before a curve, slow down to a safe speed, then give it a little power and maintain that power through the curve. You do not want to hit the brakes during a curve, as the load could surge forward and cause the tractor to jackknife.

When you shift, wait til the load hits the back of the tank before you slide it into the next gear.

As far as downtime, foodgrade seems to have a lot of downtime, but I've never had any with chemicals.
