So my name is chris and I have a bad 10 year MVR I have 3 careless driving tickets(2 are from '04 one is from '08 all are for excessive speed where the cop didn't want to take me to jail) , 1 for 30 MPH over(' 03 cop was friends with my stepfather who was a cop too no arrest made) , 1 for 14 over('08 ), several seat belt citations, 2 suspensions for failure to pay citations(careless driving in '04) in the time alloted, an accident in 07/2010 my 3 year isn't terrible I have the accident and 2 seat belt violations all of which are from 2010. I have been working with road master school in Jacksonville Florida filling out applications. Thus far I have only one pre hire it's from the big blue screw. I have my learners permit (obtained it recently) but want to know if this is really my only option. I have read alot of bad about werner and I'm sure it will be what you make of it... But the pay is low and I was an idiot when I was younger so I may have to suck it up if this is the life style I want to have. I have always wanted to drive a truck(legally, in the past I have driven log trucks from the body shop I worked at to the owners house about 10 miles away to deliver a truck we had just painted and fell in love). I just don't want to jump on the only offer of the past year. Any advice is welcomed anyone wanting to bash me on my childish acts regarding my MVR please save it I am now a matured adult who didn't like to wear a seat belt and got into an accident(i wear it now because I can't afford another $101 ticket). I apologize in advance for the long run on sentences I'm not an English major and I'm typing on my phone.

I have a clean background (with the exception of a minor in possession of alcohol from 14 years ago when I was 14 where I wasn't arrested and the state pled nollo proseqi) I am a certified law enforcement for the state of Florida. I can pass a drug screen of any type anywhere anytime.

An accident and 2 seat belt violations three years ago and you are certified law enforcement? plus an attitude towards trucking companies like you are God's gift to truck driving and should be hired by the best for the best pay?

It used to be when people hired on to a new career for a new company they expected to earn their stripes - now everyone expects them to be handed to them without paying their dues. MVR aside, I would have a tough time hiring you for any position.

The best thing that could have happened to you was if you had been arrested by your step dad's friend - maybe you would have learned to obey the rules instead of believing they were meant to everyone except for you.

Wow that's one heck of an idiom. You do have a point though. But really had to use those exact words? Makes me feel world's better thanks. So a few more responses like that and I guess Werner it will be.

I was really hoping for something more like "hey try Company X they might hire you" but thanks for rationalizing my situation for me. I needed a good laugh tonight.

You know i do honestly think if he would taken me to jail instead of doing me a "favor" that I would have had a different outlook faster than I did. Although I don't understand where the rest of your hostility is coming from? I would like to know why with the mvr aside you would have a hard time hiring someone who has a stable job history, a willingness to work hard for what he wants but at the same time oesnt want to get absolutely shafted in the process. I came here for advice but I see now that was a mistake. So I will just carry on and continue with just the words of my Werner recruiter and the recruiter at the school. I don't forsee me posting much more unless anyone has anything positive to say.

Thanks to all who came to read, but I didn't come here to realize that I screwed up when I was younger and I might come back and post what I decide.

I really thought this was a good bunch of people trying to help one another out and I aired out all of my dirty laundry only to get burned.

No offense, but Consider yourself lucky that you even got Werner to give you a pre-hire. Speaking of which, with your record in mind, Werner has sunk to a new low on my "poop list".

The good news is that if Werner doesn't work out for you, there's always CR England.

Hey try company x if Weiner falls thru. You might still think you're a cowboy so you are a gamble for any company.

    Chris,

It might not be a bad idea for you to first finish up your career as a law enforcement officer, collect your retirement pension, then go into professional truck driving.

    Heres the problem sport...............Insurance companies.

Obviously, all trucking companies are required to have insurance. And the pre requisites in order to qualify for the trucking company are varied, but not by a huge amount.

In other words, the insurance carrier for those companies wont touch you. Your a HUGE RISK, and with your past history, are just a time bomb waiting to explode. See, in trucking, you can actually, get this, KILL YOURSELF OR OTHERS!

Crazy huh? Yeah....You dont get to just walk away whistling. If you #### up in trucking, your lucky if your just fined.

edit............by the way, you wanted opinions, asked for them, and when you didnt like what you heard, became all bu tthurt...........Next time, don't ask if your afraid of what you might hear!

welcome to the real world kiddo!

Once again, with your past history, it will be near impossible to be hired, and if you are, it will be with a bottom feeder company. I bet within that first year, if your hired, you will get into an accident or get so many tickets, you wont be ALLOWED to drive........

    Truths a ###### huh?

The way I see it, the OP was a relative youngster at the time of the speeding tickets. Sounds to me like Theramsey has an improved attitude about responsibility now. I would recommend applying with Swift, Werner, and perhaps CR England.

Remember this, in order to become a successful trucker you will need to start somewhere and "pay your dues" with a low paying job for a year. No matter where you land, stick with it for a year. Get the experience and keep a clean record. Then the next job you apply for will be a step up in pay and you will have a year's recent track record of driving with no problems. That's the goal for you. Step by step you can work up to better situations.

As long as you are committed to this as your career, and approach the job every day with a responsible attitude that will put you a leg up on the other recruits. When you are driving you should think like an airline pilot, not a fighter pilot. You aren't trying to get there in a hurry, you are trying to get there with fuel savings... and that means you aren't flooring it, tail gating, or doing anything but let traffic flow around you as you stay in the 61-62 mph groove for best fuel mileage. Be feather soft with the accelerator. Be patient and courteous.
