I have a bad mvr and can't find other employment in trucking

An accident and 2 seat belt violations three years ago and you are certified law enforcement? plus an attitude towards trucking companies like you are God's gift to truck driving and should be hired by the best for the best pay?

It used to be when people hired on to a new career for a new company they expected to earn their stripes - now everyone expects them to be handed to them without paying their dues. MVR aside, I would have a tough time hiring you for any position.

The best thing that could have happened to you was if you had been arrested by your step dad's friend - maybe you would have learned to obey the rules instead of believing they were meant to everyone except for you.

It might not be a bad idea for you to first finish up your career as a law enforcement officer, collect your retirement pension, then go into professional truck driving.

 

Heres the problem sport...............Insurance companies.


Obviously, all trucking companies are required to have insurance. And the pre requisites in order to qualify for the trucking company are varied, but not by a huge amount.


In other words, the insurance carrier for those companies wont touch you. Your a HUGE RISK, and with your past history, are just a time bomb waiting to explode. See, in trucking, you can actually, get this, KILL YOURSELF OR OTHERS!

Crazy huh? Yeah....You dont get to just walk away whistling. If you #### up in trucking, your lucky if your just fined.

Once again, with your past history, it will be near impossible to be hired, and if you are, it will be with a bottom feeder company. I bet within that first year, if your hired, you will get into an accident or get so many tickets, you wont be ALLOWED to drive........

The way I see it, the OP was a relative youngster at the time of the speeding tickets. Sounds to me like Theramsey has an improved attitude about responsibility now. I would recommend applying with Swift, Werner, and perhaps CR England.

Remember this, in order to become a successful trucker you will need to start somewhere and "pay your dues" with a low paying job for a year. No matter where you land, stick with it for a year. Get the experience and keep a clean record. Then the next job you apply for will be a step up in pay and you will have a year's recent track record of driving with no problems. That's the goal for you. Step by step you can work up to better situations.

As long as you are committed to this as your career, and approach the job every day with a responsible attitude that will put you a leg up on the other recruits. When you are driving you should think like an airline pilot, not a fighter pilot. You aren't trying to get there in a hurry, you are trying to get there with fuel savings... and that means you aren't flooring it, tail gating, or doing anything but let traffic flow around you as you stay in the 61-62 mph groove for best fuel mileage. Be feather soft with the accelerator. Be patient and courteous.
