I haven't been able to read all the posts to see if my problem has been discussed so here we go.
My 710 says "System File Missing call customer support", which I did. Was told to hook it up to my computer and go to settings etc. and I will be able to fix the problem. She really didn't know much about the product and was telling me what she was told to say. The computer doesn't detect the device at all even as the device tries to connect. I have updated the 710 a few times since I bought it in 2011. Any advice would be appreciated. Tech support is closed until Monday.
    Thanks, Gary

Have you updated with the same computer?

If so, it could be the USB port on the 710. Look inside the USB connector on the 710 and see if you can see the 5 pins. Pins 1 and 5 are for power. Pins 2, 3, 4 are for the USB connection to the computer. See if those pins are pushed back.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Try spacing between the two navigations units. Any navigation device might interfere with another one if placed next to each other.

    Thanks,
    Mark

    Thanks Mark.
Yes I've updated 3 times on this laptop. She did say it was probably because the update had a flaw the last time I updated but I'm positive I used the 710 after the last time.
The pins on the unit & my cord are good.

Does the computer see the TND as an external drive? Go to my computer and you should see the TND as an external drive.

    Thanks,
    mark

Mark, I checked that through several tries, the GPS was showing "connecting to PC, if not connected to PC in 1 minute disconnect usb cord and restart gps and try to reconnect". It didn't work after several tries and different reboots. You know I did all the different tries like a true geek would do. I think the hard drive in the gps crashed somehow.
I have AVG running on my laptop and it's solid. When I call RM next week they'll probably have me mail it in. They better stand behind this thing even after warranty period. I paid over $500 and I expect a product to last longer than this for that much dinero. Especially considering how little I used it. Should never have updated it the last time anyway, they don't have a new update out until like late June or July.
    Thanks,
    Gary

Handshaking between the TND and the computer did not finish all the way. Try this.

Connect the TND (off) to the computer, then turn on the TND.

Connect the TND (on) to the computer, then turn off the TND and turn on again. (hitting the reset will work also).

Make sure the power settings for the computer are on high in your control panel.

    Try another USB port.

Make sure you use the RM USB cable.

If you look at the USB connector on the TND, you should see the ends of the five pins. Now being very careful... take a sharp object and push the pins for 2, 3, and 4 back in slightly. If you look into the USB connector you will see the "hill" where the wire rises up like a little "hill". This gets pushed down when you slide the cable end of the USB connector in. Once removed they should spring back up. It might be they lost some tension on the "rise" of the "hill".

    Thanks,
    Mark

Mark, I tried all that and more with no success. True dat abou the handshake. The 710 has the screen "connecting to your PC, if this take smore than 1 minute disconnect the USB, restart your TND & reconnect the USB again"
Very frustrating to say the least!
Thanks for the time you've paid towards this deal!

My dime is still on the USB port on the TND. I suspect maybe a solder joint still. Let me know if they will not cover the TND.

    Thanks,
    Mark

    Cool Beans Mark!
I'll call them when I get a chance this week.
May the God of your choice bless you for your good works.
