I can tell you from my time with LS in 05-07 they ride a very tough herd on the O/Os and very little if any herd on the agents.

This is why its so tough for drivers to build that oh so important relationship with agents. Or its billed as super important.
The agents have no incentive to give a good load to a LS O/O. They can broker it and get more %=$$$$.
None of the agents I worked with had any loyalty. Maybe I just never managed to stumble onto the magical 7 agents that do.

Oh yeah, talking with your BCO adviser.......... pointless for sure.

No offense but just like Lockridge used to say: " You can't get two truckers to agree on the price of 'Free Coffee'..." Some here make LS work.....Just like some others on this board get CHR loads and make good $$$$...Just like some here work for Werner or even Swift and make good $$$$....

    It's perspective......
    It's your experinces.......

    ..So very True...

.We BCO's are just a means to an end..Agents here at Landstar lack the skills to build a Healthy Partnership..

The Agents love this FACT.They are only worried about there ''bottom line''..When they start telling you that we only use ''BCO's'' and BCO's are the best of the best, you can count on the agent is desperate. It's all talk they learned at some Landstar Corporate Meeting...We call it blowin smoke up are ###....

.93% Don't even no what the word Loyality means..7% can be found but that takes years.

Gotta love these useless bunch.I am pretty sure these people were ex walmart cashiers.Definitley came in off the short bus...

Very true statements you make. The only ones that will disagree are the ones with the Landstar Rose Colored Glasses on,drinking the Landstar Kool-Aid..

All in all i make it work for me regardless of all the one sided B/S Landstar pulls on us BCO's..Once i took off my Glasses,i became deadly and make much profit here at Landstar..:biggrin_25525:

Actually, I can tell you with all certainty, I make more money putting a long haul on a BCO than I do a brokered carrier. Proven that fact to my people time and again.

Adam, I'm told LS allows up to 80% of the gross to go to a brokered truck, then LS grabs 10% off the top which leaves 10% to the agent, if the agent can sell the load cheaper then the difference gets split 50-50 as well........I know 2 former BCO's now running for themselves both still do a good deal of LS moves at 80%, they won't work cheaper than that and they will do a bit better than I will on the same move. I have also heard LS takes the first 12% which leave the agent 8% plus 50% of the difference if they can sell the load cheaper.....maybe you can set the record straight here, but I know what I saw on my buddies A/R's.

I have always run under my own numbers.....Never leased on to anyone....Now for you critics out there of LS....Is LS better or worse than say leasing on to the Mega Carriers like Swift or CRE?

With over 8,000 lease trucks LS is a mega carrier.

Even tho they can be as aggravating as jock itch LS is still a much better choice than Swift, CR England or any other. I think most will agree with me about those two but different people have different needs. I don't let corporate rattle me much even tho I go on tangents and threaten to take my truck elsewhere. Few carriers give you the freedom to run or not run they way you like even tho they do micro manage your 120 day inspections and other Mickey Mouse stuff.

At LS we have good honest agents, some that are too dumb to be crooked and others that are crooked as a bag of snakes and will screw you at every opportunity. It's true that LS does little or nothing to ride herd on them.

You know 5 years ago I would have said absolutely the best place to bring your truck is LS, I even brought over at least a dozen trucks and drivers from places like Landspan, Swift, DART etc. after answering their question honestly about LS and if I thought they were good quality individuals who would benefit the company......unfortunately now I can't say that. LS is becoming more and more like the Swifts and the Schneiders etc etc with the EOBR requirement now and them taking 35% off the top, IMO that's a helluva bite especially while rates remain flat for how many years now and costs continuing to climb. Also they run their compliance dept the way they want to all the while IMO way overeaching the DOT regs and cutting back the services offered at the same time, call it cost cutting or waht you will, the fact is the new people coming in are paying more to LS and getting less value for their dollar than I was when I started. Toss in the EOBR requirement and I no longer push anybody to LS, I just tell them to do their due dillegence and decide for themselves, but the one thing I do stress is whether you make or break it here is all on you and the one thing still keeping me here is the freedom to work as much or as little as I can afford. Also the fuel discount program and LCAPP programs are a good benefit. I have had very few serious issues with corporate in my 8 years here but I do have issues with many of the worker bees who man the various depts. I am not here to either praise nor bash LS. I am expressing observations based on facts not feelings. LS has the right to run their business as they choose and I have the right to choose whether or not to participate.
